I cannot remember which bootleg of "Satanic Rites" I had (I believe it was the Blakk Holocaust CDr one), and rid myself of it when "Demon Entrails" was released, so alas, I cannot directly compare both, but I do not remember the bootleg's sound to be in any way superior to "Demon Entrails", or even that different - of course, I can only comment on behalf of "Satanic Rites", as I have never owned any reproduction of the "Death Fiend" or "Triumph of Death" demo tapes.
However, I'd be curious to know what your gripes with the "Demon Entrails" remaster are? |

| It just sounds compressed, digital, and shitty compared to the bootlegs I have of the demos. I do appreciate that Messiah lacks the tape fuck-up that's common on the bootlegs, though. |

Maybe you're just disappointed that HELLHAMMER wasn't quite as raw and unpolished as you thought they were, based on bootlegs sourced from a multiple generation tape. |

I think 'Demon Entrails' sounds fantastic. It's far superior to any other Hellhammer releases I've heard.
What I like most is that I can actually hear the songs...unlike the muddled, barely-audible mess of the bootleg tapes I used to own. _________________ Evil Is As Evil Does... |

Yup, I think the left channel on 'triumph' fades in and out on my shitty bootleg tape. Really looking forward to snagging this. _________________ http://kleptocracy.bandcamp.com/

| I've been listening to this release (CD version) for the past few days and they sound really great to me. Much better than any bootleg I ever heard! |

No- the bootlegs are legitimately more listenable. It has nothing to do with them being "raw", as they really aren't. The ones I'm talking about are the Satanic Rites CD with "this record is for Hellhammer-Maniacs only! If you are not, don't get one" written on the back, and the Triumph of Death CD with that stupid-assed multicolored horned monster thing on one side of the insert, the original cover on the other side. Both of these bootlegs were really common about 10 years ago. Just compare the sound and see how they raped the mastering job for Demon Entrails.
For a bunch of guys who bitch about remastering jobs that carry barely a noticeable difference, you all seem pretty indifferent to a real butcher job. |

| Anyone who has the 1999 CD re-release of Morbid Tales/Emperor's Return knows that CF are not immune to fuck up a remix/remastering. |

No doubt.
On top of this, if you listen to the Satanic Rites bootleg I mentioned and then Demon Entrails, you'll notice 2 things-
1. Watch an EQ- all they did was compress Demon Entrails to shit and raise the mid range, lower the low end, and raise the overall volume. There are no recording dynamics anymore.
2. The exact, specific tape panning problems that exist on the old bootleg CD also exist on the official release. The most noticeable one is at about 24/25 seconds on Messiah. That means that either every copy of this demo has had tape panning problems since the very beginning (because Demon Entrails is supposedly from the master tapes), or Demon Entrails is just sourced from this bootleg I'm talking about. Or I guess the third option would be the bootleg and Demon Entrails were sourced from the exact same tape.
Mind you, I'm not talking about those shitty fucking tape bootlegs that exist everywhere and are sourced from some low-quality mp3s some asshole found on a blog. Those obviously sound like shit.
Edit: If I get time this weekend, I'll put a comparison video together for to guys to check out. |

According to the "Only Death is Real" book - the dude who recorded the first session (the pre-Satanic Rites stuff) never gave them the actual master tape and just erased their recordings whenever he got a chance to record something else. You might be right about Demon Entrails sounding not as good as some old bootlegs, though, I can't argue about it (since I don't have them)... |

| I don't think it is a big deal actually, but too lazy to check. Of course they could have cut a bit the frequencies with the re-mastering, but just play it on a good stereo and all is fine. It's a raw recording anyway. |

| I've had numerous versions of these demos since '85 and today I played the Demon Entrails CD on my "above average" system and I found no fault at all with these versions. |
