I'm not holding my breath for another release from these guys, so is anyone else carrying the torch of modern atmospheric/ambient black metal that I may be unaware of? Preferably something with a similar guitar tone.

Maybe Ygg or Khors, if you have not checked out yet...

Some years ago, it was my understanding that Walknut were meant to sign to Candlelight Records, though obviously, if this were true, it never materialised.

Candlelight could not bear the pressure if they would really sign Walknut. Considering the individuals involved.

Indeed, though I did hear it from a source that, at the time, was probably very reliable. Nonetheless, nothing happened, so perhaps the idea was canned / never was thought up in the first place.

Nitberg - Nagelreid is StringSkald from Walknut and Kaldrad from Branikald, Forest etc. Different atmosphere completely but similar riffing.

Maybe this will fit your description? Especially the second half of the record moves into mid paced atmospheric stuff. Raw and triumphant sound, recorded live, no modern production.

Released by us in december on cassette (sold out though) and is getting a reissue on vinyl by Altare productions as soon as possible.
