| in light of the release of the hedangervidda lps i thought it appropriate to discuss one of the most influential and important black metal musicians in the history of the genre. when i first heard ildjarn it completely changed my perception of black metal. to this day every time i listen to his work i am moved in a way that no other music can accomplish. his work is at once hateful and contempletive, minimal yet perfectly structured. black metal perfection. |

Indeed, a true master.
No one will eclipse what he accomplished with Ildjarn.
My endless & humble regards for his obscure art. |

| ILDJARN truly stands apart I think... you'll never hear an ILDJARN song and mistake it for someone else. Ildjarn is Dead was great, there was so much material. |

seriously? im not a great fan of a lot of norwegian style black metal but ildjarn stands out as superior. no matter what style of metal one prefers there is no denying his genius, i think. his music is very simplistic and minimal but yet no one has ever been able to imitate it. like most great musicians he simply has an innate sense of how to construct a good song.
the only band to attempt and succeed at playing a derivative style is bone awl. and i think they will be the first to tell you that they have not come close to matching ildjarn's music. |

I cannot offer a description, other than perhaps to say it's like a seizure, eyes rolling back in your head, from sheer contempt.
If what you've heard about his music interests you at all, find a copy of Forest Poetry or Strength & Anger. Play that shit loud, all the way through.
About the particular sound he got with the metal tracks; it's true, no one has duplicated it. He was either very conscious about it (which he definitely was, to a certain extent, as he discussed his approach to recording in an interview), or like was already suggested (and this is what I suspect moreso): he had a completely innate vision of how his ideas should sound, and the result was a direct transmission of his emotional landscape, that landed on the tape without any interference. There are layers in there that aren't coming from the instruments, so to speak. |

I need to check more Ildjarn stuff. I never heard the ambient material so far, most probably because I'm almost every time difficult with such stuff _________________ Good/Bad traders list

Ildjarn is godly.
To the first time listener is just sounds like noise, but to the trained black metal ear it is a symphony.
the debut and the "Seven Harmonies..." demo are still favorites |

Wrong stuff to check out first. You should start with the black metal stuff. _________________ The only email I have access to is nwnprod (at) gmail (dot) com. I do not have access to my old Yahoo addresses.

| yeah, the black metal stuff is the best starting point but there is something very enjoyable about the ambient material as well. at first i hated it but ive recently opened my mind to it and found it to be quite enjoyable but for completely different reasons than i like his black metal recordings. but then again i listen to a lot of non-metal music anyway. |

I did. I mean I never listened to the ambient works because I seldom like that stuff. _________________ Good/Bad traders list
