Death Worship "Extermination Mass - Demo" MLP/MC
ANTI-GOTH 419

(Description by J. Campbell)
In 2016, Death Worship released its tremendous debut, Extermination Mass. That MLP was years in the making—meticulously composed, precisely executed, and painstakingly recorded. Written and conceived by R. Forster (Domini Inferi/Conqueror/Blasphemy) and performed with the assistance of J. Read (Conqueror/Axis of Advance/Revenge) on drums, along with backing vocals by Black Winds from Blasphemy, the six tracks on Extermination Mass served as a reminder of the potency that still remains in extreme metal when left in the capable hands of masters. Currently, Death Worship are in the process of writing and recording the follow up to Extermination Mass; however, Forster has made clear his intentions with the project and quality will never fall victim to expediency. In the meantime, to slake the underground’s appetite for new Death Worship material, NWN! is releasing the demo version of the Extermination Mass recording. This alternate recording, made in a home studio setting a few months before entering Fiasco Bros. Studio to commit the final version to tape, was only circulated among close associates of the band. Forster’s intention in making these alternate demo tracks was, he says, to establish “a clear and exact focus of what I wanted to achieve.” In particular, Forster wanted to spend time working out the vocal patterns using these demos. Beginning with a base recording with Read on drums and Forster on guitars, he used the tracks as a template to work and re-work the vocals, as well as the guitar leads and overdubs. Listening to the final result, it is apparent that Forster’s methodical approach clearly paid off. This demo contains all six of the Extermination Mass tracks, set in the same order as the MLP, but features more feral performances and coarser production. Indeed, these alternate versions will, for many, be preferable to the final versions presented on the original MLP because they so vividly capture the brutal essence of Forster’s and Read’s assault. When asked why he wanted to formally release these versions of the Extermination Mass recordings, Forster responded: “Demos with productions like this were the norm back in the old analog tape trading days and somehow the 'evil' was expressed better with this type of recording. Something happens with a sound that is too cleaned up. All the darkness is wiped away.” “This recording,” he clarified, “is for the die hard maniacs into more savage sounds.” Completing the presentation of the Extermination Mass Demo is cover artwork painted/created by Calvariam Design (Germany) based on “the Desolator” image from the original Extermination Mass cover.

Back in stock:

Released by HMH Records Germany and distributed by NWN!

Xandril "The Vision of Rotting Darkness: The Demos 1985-1988" DLP

Xandril "Demo I ’83" 7"

Xandril "Demo II ’83" 7"

Best known for their contribution to the classic ‘Teutonic Invasion’ compilation with the speed metal masterpiece ‘Terminal Breath’, Xandril are widely considered one of the greatest 80’s speed metal bands to never have released an album.
Xandril delivered a unique blend of raw and energetic German speed metal with a touch of sophistication at times bordering on progressive, complimented by the untamed, emotional vocals of female frontman Bettina Paschen.
This double LP includes the lesser known ‘Rehearsal ’85’ demo along with the classic demos ‘Rotting Paradise’, ‘The Vision’ and ‘Perfect Darkness’, plus previously unreleased tracks from the ‘Rehearsal ’85’ session. All tracks have been restored from original tapes and mastered for vinyl by Patrick W. Engel at Temple Of Disharmony. The LPs are packaged in a gatefold cover with 4 page insert featuring loads of unseen photos, detailed band history and lyrics for the first time! Each DLP is hand numbered to 500 copies, and also includes a picture card in tribute to Xandril bass player André Philipp who sadly passed away earlier this year, each card individually signed by the other members of the band.

Cemetery Lights “Lemuralia” Demo and TS
ANTI-GOTH 403

T Shirt:
Metallic gold aqueous ink on Gildan brand TS. Available in sizes Small to XXL while supply lasts. Printed by Inferno Screen Printing from NOLA.

(Description by C. Conrad)
While it is often true that distinct musical styles are unique to a given location and era in history, occasionally this axiom is broken by a band that somehow manages to fracture the paradigm and insert itself as a welcomed anachronism in the present day. In this vein, Cemetery Lights, though a native of North American soil, convincingly channels and combines the musical spirits of European metal forefathers such as Mortuary Drape, Samael, and Tiamat, and melds them with the literary traditions and culture of Ancient Rome to create something that is both reverent to the past and equally relevant to the present. The band’s debut demo, “Lemuralia,” was first disseminated on cassette in very limited numbers on the ninth of May, 2018, to commemorate the advent of the Lemuralia festival, an ancient Roman celebration featuring exorcism rites to banish malicious spirits from the home. A few short months later, Nuclear War Now! Productions saw fit to release Cemetery Lights’ second demo, “The Church on the Island.” Now, in an effort to make the first recording more widely available, NWN! offers a reissue cassette of “Lemuralia” for the enjoyment of disciples of the aforementioned traditions. From the outset of the first track, “Charite’s Revenge,” the most obvious musical influence of Mortuary Drape is palpable in the intro and verse riffs, as the lyrics reference a tale from within the ancient Roman novel “Metamorphoses” by Apuleius. The ensuing title track is more reminiscent of Samael as it explains an evening ritual for the Lemuralia festival. “Necrophilosoph” continues the story-weaving tendency by recounting a necromancer’s rites at Lake Avernus, an entrance to the underworld as depicted by writers such as Cicero, Virgil, and Hyginus. Lastly, “Accursed Funeral” is a supplication to Dīs Pater, Roman god of the underworld, to take Emperor Nero’s life. These final two tracks, with a slightly unconventional sense of melody, perhaps remind more of early Tiamat than other influences. Throughout the demo, a malevolent aura is cast, not unlike those that pervade the works of classic Greek black metal. What is perhaps most impressive in this recording is not necessarily its adeptness in reproducing sounds first pioneered by early European ancestors, but more so that it fuses them organically in a way that maintains its cohesiveness as a whole, thus proving that history is indeed capable of mutating and recombining distinct elements from different snapshots in time and place to once again wreak havoc on the present.

Holocausto “Guerra Total” Demo
ANTI-GOTH 423

(Description by J. Campbell)
By now it is well known that during the 1980s, the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte spawned some of the most vicious underground metal the world has ever known. The axes of time, place, and influence converged in just the right way so as to yield an entire scene of young, nihilistic maniacs who formed a handful of bands that sounded and looked like nothing produced before or since. Sarcófag0, Sepultura, Mutilator, Insulter, were just a few of the bands that created the unique style for which Belo Horizonte is now recognized. As with many similar nodes of time and place, the explosion of ideas was short-lived, and the aesthetic revolution that began in the mid-1980s evolved, changed, and, some would argue, got totally lost within a few years. By the late 1980s, many of the bands shed the rugged and youthful brilliance of their earlier recordings, resorting, instead, to a style that was more technical and sterile.

Holocausto, one of the bands most closely associated with the Belo Horizonte scene, fell prey to this pattern. Holocausto is best known for their appearance on the original Warfare Noise compilation in 1986, and the 1987 debut full-length, Campo de Extermínio. Steeped in martial imagery and featuring a harsh, combative sound, these recordings were among the most ferocious and hostile produced during that era. Shortly after releasing Campo…, the band underwent a massive lineup change. Guitarist Valério Exterminator and drummer Armando Nuclear Soldier left the band. Bassist Anderson Guerrilheiro remained, as did vocalist Rodrigo Führer—though he assumed the dual role of drums and vocals—and a new guitarist named Renato da Costa joined them. Over the next several years, Rodrigo, with Renato’s assistance, would lead Holocausto into decidedly different territory. Blocked Minds, released in 1988, and Negatives, which came out in 1990, were comparatively unremarkable thrash albums, and by 1993, Holocausto moved into industrial-metal territory with the album Tozago as Deismno, which, other than the band name, bore no resemblance to Holocausto’s earlier work.

After more than a decade of inactivity, Holocausto returned in 2005 with De Volta ao Front, an album that restored the band closer to its roots. It also marked Rodrigo’s reunification with original members Valério Exterminator and Anderson Guerrilheiro. Unfortunately, the band fell silent again, and it wasn’t until 2016 that Holocausto resurfaced with the superb War Metal Massacre LP, featuring the original lineup from the Warfare Noise session. Easily the best album in Holocausto’s catalog since Campo …, War Metal Massacre proved that it is possible for a band to reclaim its youthful potency decades later. Anyone who witnessed the wanton slaughter of Holocausto’s performance at NWN! fest in 2016 saw in action the band’s magnificent return to form.

Uncertainty has always loomed over Holocausto, and it wasn’t clear when, or if, the band would record again, but they have again assembled to produce a new demo. Recorded with the classic Campo … lineup (Armando Nuclear Soldier replaced Nedson Warfare on drums for this new demo recording), Guerra Total displays an even more genuine 1980s Brazilian sound. Recorded live using open air mics, this demo is raw and menacing in the very same way that the band’s earliest recordings were. Operating in militaristic uniformity, Holocausto’s performance is brilliant and brutal. The riffs are sharp, weaponized. This is the sound that Holocausto and their peers should have produced in the 1990s had they not been derailed. Quite simply, this may very well be the most authentic approximation of the mid-1980s Brazilian sound produced since that era.

Probably not the right place for this question, but is there some sort of automatic script or text shortcut for the band I-LOVE-PENIS???

Every time I try to write Aus and Japan in three-letter form, the word "J.a.p" turns into I-LOVE-PENIS.
Why is this?

Really? You honestly have no clue, can't fathom any reason at all? ...as to why the Japanese individual who owns this forum would put coding in the forum to dissuade the usage of a insulting, derogatory ethnic slur?

What a mystery indeed.

No dickhead, I mean, nice old man. I meant why that band. why not Sabbat, or G.i.s.m. or another Japanese group.
And the other thing I wondered out loud was whether there were other shortcuts and the like. Is there only one, or are there more.
