The pre-order campaign for the FIDEI DEFENSOR's Cognoscenti CD is now open.

This is one of the best albums we have ever had delivered by a band, offering atmospheric, elitist, yet also melancholic, Black Metal. A sample track is available at the link below:

SAMPLE TRACK

We are proud to have such a talented entity on our roster, and the project is well worth supporting.

In keeping with the character of the album, we have planned this as an extremely limited physical release, with a run of only 250 copies. The release will only be available during the pre-order campaign period, which will run for just over two months, until 30 March 2011.

On 31 March, the planned release date, the album will be deleted and we will not subquently have it available for sale on our webstore. In other words, the only time it will be possible to order this album is between now and 30 March.

If the album is not sold out by 30 March, it will not be released: instead, it will be cancelled and customers who pre-ordered will be issued with refunds.
Each album will be hand-numbered, and will come, in addition, with a digital signature, which will be linked to the owner's name. Each copy, therefore, is personalised. Should the album be uploaded anywhere, we will know who uploaded it and we will prosecute accordingly.

I just think it is pretty fucked, it is bad enough when a label is not releasing music because they like it but just for money - but now it's to a point if it doesn't sell out in pre-orders the album is not even released at all?!?!?! and to even further maximise money to be made off it, any uploads "anywhere" will be prosecuted - who are they kidding?!
That is taking the whole "all about the money" angle to an all new level.
Not to mention imagine how great that band would feel about how their "label" views them and how much "faith" the label has in the band and its release.

Running a label is completely voluntary. They should stop wining or stop the label.

I don't think this says anything about Supernal trying to be greedy.

I think it says everything about the fact that they're in the red and they've been burned by shit advertising and terrible signings... this release is probably no exception. Supernal has always been a godawful label when it comes to releasing music.

Having shit taste CAN hurt a labelowner, as you see with this label.

The "uploading" part of that was just lol worthy.

There's no way a label who struggles to sell even 250 copies of a release would follow up and prosecute an uploader. And even if they did pony up the cash for legal fees, the judge would laugh in their stupid corpsepainted face.

That "digital signature" talk is a total crock of shit. Printing 250 different copies of a record that can be identified through 128kbps mp3's is not gonna happen.

Don't really care about the rest.

if they are trve kvlt, they probably rather mean they will hunt you down personally...

anyways cant understand both, the label and the band that is willing to agree to that

Haha, that is quite hilarious.

Releases will be copied and downloaded, be they good or bad. If you release quality, however, people will buy an original copy and that's that. Why even care about the downloaders? Just adjust your pressing amounts accordingly to have enough to go around for those who actually want a copy. If people want more and you want to sell more copies, take another pressing. Just my two cents...

I've been around some years when it comes to releasing/buying/trading records, but this is something I have no words for, well, a few maybe.
