going through my "collect everything" time collection i see many hypothermia records and cds and never listened to them closely. now i started and dunno which release brought me to buy their stuff.

listening to Rakbladsvalsen and somehow the first track bores me.... i like depressive bm a lot, of course i need to be in the mood for it but there are awesome bands with catchy riffs and a good progression. but this one seems to be generic sounding so far.....

so maybe this record gets better, what can you recommend if this band is recommendable at all.

Gråtoner is the finest from them thus far. Followed by Rakbladsvalsen, Kold, and Veins in that order.

I need to explore the splits and demos myself.

There's also a new version of Gråtoner recorded in 2015. Should be up on their Bandcamp, but the drums are somewhat badly produced and I think I prefer the rawness of the initial version, in general. Kaffe & Blod is enjoyable as well. The rest is just run-on-the-mill.. DSBM.

Probably the best answer together with Skogens hjärta. To expand on split and demo material:

Lead Yourself to Failure (split w. Durthang). Contains the Hypothermia track Ur ångest född, which is probably their best track from all split/demo material.

Black Howling / Hypothermia (split w. Black Howling). Contains the Hypothermia tracks Aprilimprovisation I and II. Basically rawer versions of Gråtoner and Kaffe & Blod. Also, Black Howling is always good.

Kaffe & blod. Probably their best demo for newer material.

Svarta nyanser av ljus. Probably their best demo for older material.

The original version of Gråtoner is far better. There's also a demo version which can probably still be found online (also contains the tracks Gråtoner III* and Gråtoner IV**) with a rawer and less mixed/mastered sound, especially for the vocals. Works quite well actually.

* Later renamed Aprilimprovisation I for the split with Black Howling

** Otherwise unreleased track

Just to spread further enjoyment. The below referenced release has a great cover of Gratoner. Excellent band and one of the better from this scene.

Unjoy "Worthless Life End"

True. Besides that, their music is very bland. The riffs worked one or two times for me. After that, the music started to bore me.

thanks for the replies!

ok i listened now to all 3 releases i got on vinyl. raabb... kaffee... and gratoner.

all ok but always the same structure, slow very long intro then a bit progression with some proggy riffs and then the sad singing, how sad, so sad... and then it ends. 1-2 songs are ok and some parts but overall they bored me. maybe im not into the Depressive BM mood atm but then i plugged in back e.g. nyktalgia and shorter songs and still catchy.

I don't get it. For a reason unknown to yourself you collected all their stuff, yet hardly listened to it, and now you're asking a public of a couple of hundred people which title you should listen to?

I'm all for depressing and sad black metal but stuff like Hypothermia, Happy Days, etc. is just embarressing, which in itself is quite depressing.
Hmmm... Maybe they were on to something after all?
