My new rule regarding this:
Only certain bands/releases and/or circumstances.
I cherish cassette tapes, but these days I ditch a tape if I already have it on either CD or LP.
Having a nice collection is indeed great, but having the same release on multiple formats can just lead to a lot of clutter and make finding shit/organizing a pain in the ass. |

My collection is for sure not stored away in a box in the attic.
And I don't think it's waste of either money or space. But I bet you don't get people who collect coins then? Total waste to spend money on old useless coins, right? |

I have two copies of Sentence Of Death EP, Holland Heavy Metal (Sad Iron / Seducer) and Neuthrone's 2nd 7".
Sometimes I have both LP and CD, because I didn't buy LPs when I was a teenager, so all the good ones had to get into my vinyl collection. |

6 different coloured vinyls for Sabbat - And to praise the sabbatical queen. Also have the CD. I have many different pressings of the same Sabbat releases. I just have many Sabbat releases...
I have all three vinyl versions of Ritual, and one day I'll get the CD-versions as well.
Three vinyl versions of FAOD (2x NWN die-hard + original).
And probably a lot more. If they are good albums I don't mind owning multiple copies. However, there always must be a difference in the pressings, I don't want to own the exact same item twice. |

Zemial - For the glory of UR: Black Vinyl LP, Picture Disc and the Hypervorea CD-Edition.
Blasphemy - FAOD: Original Black Vinyl on Wild Rags, All 4 Die Hard Pic Discs (= 8x FAOD) and the NWN CD. That's overkill, isn't it ?
Kawir - To Cavirs: Original MLP, A5 Book CD on Nyx and one CD of the 125 copies that were sold at the "Return of the Ancient Ones" Tour.
But these are exceptions. Normally I don't buy more than one of each, as long as it doesn't make sense (like the Messiah CD-Re-Releases with lots of Bonus-tracks). _________________

There are many releases that I have on both cd and vinyl. Like somebody mentioned - lp for the collection and cd for travelling. But only a few releases where I have more than one lp/cd version. Don't see the point of that really.
Any more opinions on gathering multiple versions of the same music?
I could for example never buy 15 versions of Nunslaughter - "Christmassacre", just to get all those different cuts/colours.... |

What's waste of time for you might be a rewarding hobby for some, so why bother? My lp's are not in the attic by the way. _________________ Into the Menstrual Night We Go-o, Hey-Ho, Hey-Ho...

Some people prefer mp3 and say its useless to buy CD or LP (waste of money and wate of space). Some of my fave stuff I have in double or triple. Why (sounds like question from my mummy)? First, all these editions I have got over long period of time. Example: first I got Venom "Black Metal" Neat Italian version, then years later I got a chance to get "BM" first press with embossed cover and poster! Damn great! Then I saw the original PicLP and thats nice too! So thats how I have 3 versions of "BM". Only very SPECIAL albums are collected like that by me.
I definately do not agree this mentality that I have to have all albums by certain band (f.ex. all Venom albums). |

| I have a bunch of stuff on both CD and LP, usually when there is a different bonus track on each formats. Sometimes I'll pick up CD-versions of stuff I already own on vinyl if I come across it cheaply (used bin, NWN-distro, trade) so I have it in a more portable, convenient format, but I'd rather own 10 different releases altogether than 10 different versions of the same release. I also rarely collect every release of a band unless they are all really good. I'd rather buy a good album by an artist not yet represented in my collection over a sub-par release of a band I already have a bunch of albums by just for the sake of completing the collection. |

Ok, thanks.
I think most of us with the "collectors bug" have been manifesting it in some way since we were children. If I wasn't so stuck on collecting music I would certainly collect every release from Colliseum Video (WWF/WWE Wrestling VHS!). |

For me... I can be that way, but it really depends on the band and will only do it for a select few. I would rather get a title I don't have at all, instead of getting a slightly different version of something I already have. _________________ Glorious Dawn Upon The Plateau Of Might Now Burns!!
