Flower Travellin' Band (Japanese EXTREMELY HEAVY psych. from late 60's Metal as fuck). Don't know if their recordings have been reissued on LP at all (originals are valuable and rare I understand) but CD versions are fairly easy to find.
Sir Lord Baltimore -- Self Titled and the second record both slam hard.
Cactus -- all albums rip
Ram Jam -- Portrait of the Artist as a Young Ram LP (some fluff in there, but overall a slamming rock album)
UFO -- Phenomenon was not mentioned as well, which is odd. Totally wild album.
Joe Perry Project -- Let the Music do the talking LP. Not overly metal but rowdy as fuck and has some great dirges in there.
and on and on. |
Hey man, we have to hang out and listen to records sometime. You have such amazing tastes! Next time you come to Mtl, you should drop by our place or something...
On the other hand... my recommendations of super heavy pre-metal bands is the following:
HIGH TIDE - Sea Shanties + the S/T EP
IRON CLAW - Dismorphophobia
BANG! - Bang!
Pre-corpse paint insanity:
ARTHUR BROWN - The Crazy World of Arthur Brown
Twin guitar orgasm:
THIN LIZZY - Jailbreak
And a fuckload more... I'm too lazy (and have too much work) to keep on writing...

Ah, I totally forgot to mention this band! "proto-punk" or not.. they were great. Nevernever Land is so heavy and the cover is so misleading, haha.
"Do it" is one of the toughest songs ever. |

Anybody heard Ash Ra Tempel? Just curious if anybody is aware of more 70ies Psych/Progressive/Kraut Rock, cause I'm new to that. Sometimes I really dig this stuff. |

Lucifer's Friend's Ride In The Sky track is a fucking Metal masterpiece I think....dark and heavy with great lyrics. The rest of the album is totally forgettable and boring to my ears sadly, a shame really. |

Also, get Lonesome Crow by Scorpions if that hasn't been brought up yet. Incredible the whole way through, very moody and gloomy. Some great Sabbath worship on it as well. |

forgot to mention the first FRIJID PINK album
and also, FREE was the greatest band of all time......that's right, I said it
there's also a Dutch band called LEMMING that was an awesome Satanic shock rock outfit from the early 70's..there was a cd out a couple years ago called "LUCIFERA, THE DEVIL SENT US LEMMING" that compiled everything they recorded...kind of tough to find...but well worth it...fans of the COVEN and BLACK WIDOW records will probably dig it.. |

satori has been reissued on vinyl but I don't think anything else has. FTB are one of my favorite bands of all time and one of the few bands I would say even come close to matching the heavyness of sabbath.
blues creation is another japanese band I regard in a similar manner. it's worth it to check out both. |
