With the amount of music that gets ripped and posted as MP3 downloads, it makes more sense to stream entire albums for free. Contrary to some people's opinions I don't think letting people listen to entire albums prior to purchase deters them from actually purchasing. In fact it probably helps with sales in the long run. For this reason I've decided to start streaming entire albums using bandcamp.com. These are just the beginning. I am working with IXTAB to upload almost the entire NWN back catalog on here. Note that these are only streams; you will not be able to download the tracks.

This is a brilliant idea. And I strongly agree that previewing music leads to more purchases. I know some serious downloading mooching assholes and even they buy shit they really like.

| This is a great way to preview albums without having to download/unzip/manage large files with the potential threat of a virus, only to find that you either don't like the music or you'll never listen to the mp3s again because you like it and will buy it on a real format. |

It's cool that I can stream shit on Bandcamp without a million hours of buffering somehow on my shitty connection.
I'm also of the opinion that making the music freely accessible increases business and promotes bands, and even pirated full albums help a lot. I'd say that labels and bands might as well just offer the free full downloads themselves, but I think that people are way less likely to buy the album after that as they'll have a an official version of the music, and there wont be that little bit of guilt as a motivator.
