Can't remember whether anyone has done a thread like this, if so then redirect me.
Anyway a few bands I know I guess Venom goes without saying, but I'm more interested in bands that are still going or just formed, I know bands such as Adorior, Goat Molestor spring to mind. I know of more but can't think. |

Though not exactly pure black metal, I'd recommend Wodensthrone and Fen. They might be a bit "arty" for this boards taste though. Skaldic Curse aren't bad either!
Thinking about it though, I could sit here all day telling you which BM bands from the UK were shit, but I'm very hard pressed to think of any good proper black metal other than the aforementioned bands. I recently discovered Dead Christ, who are worth checking out if you like stuff like Beherit. |

some of the Thus Defiled stuff is incredible.
If I remember correctly, Megiddo from the UK sounded a lot like Countess meets Forefather. Hopefully I am not dead wrong, as I haven't listened to this 7" for ages.
Early Bal Sagoth was astonishing. |

As mentioned above, Wodensthrone are pretty decent - the split with Niroth is good. The Niroth demo was very good too - haven't heard the album.
Basilisk and Oubliette are worth tracking down too. |

The first one 'A Black Sun...' was. I bought it when it came out & only ever really liked the title track. I still have it but don't want it. _________________

| There is the band Volkermord who are alright. Quite raw BM and quite good. I have the one demo CD if you want to listen to it next time you are in Worcester. |

Emit and Extinction are worth a look if you're into Abruptum.
Darkness made several worthwhile demos, very Burzum/Wigrid like.
Niroth weren't that good after the demo - became too artistic...
What happened to Goatvomit666? Signed to Morbid Moon, then vanished?
And anyone know if Goat Horns were any good? (never got round to buying any of the splits they did.) |

| Also, check out Basilisk. Quite good. However, I think you probably would have heard them. |
