The sound/atmosphere on the original Carpathian Wolves (eternal devils) is amazing, the no colours version i just couldn't get into after being so use to the first version.

What specifically is the difference in sound between the two versions?
.

I believe it is the bass, in the newer version it was lowered or remixed or something and just simply doesn't have the same atmosphere - from what i gather it was because at the time he hated Karcharoth (we all know that story from Thousand Swords - Following the Voice era).

If you like Carpathian Wolves and only have ever heard the no colours version, i strongly suggest you try to track down the original - it is on a whole different level of greatness (in my opinion).

I also agree with goldenbull that Memory and Destiny is amazing.

Does the original Carpathian Wolves LP have the same sound issue as the No Colours CD? That's the only version of that album I have and I'd like to hear a better sounding version, particularly if it has a deeper bass sound.

That reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXrts7oiP-g
(although they need to get their facts straight! The writers of the west wing have obviously never visited metal-archives haha)

I could never get into Thousand Swords...I'd have to say Carpathian Wolves.

Everything up to Immortal Pride is awesome, so it's hard to choose just one album. If forced to choose, I'll go with the demos. Nobody has ever come close to replicating Rob's weird-ass industrial black sludge on Necromanteon and Drunemeton and In the Glare is probably my favorite straight-forward BM stuff.

I sincerely believe that Darken's epic pagan material is highly underrated. All material from Raise Your Sword!, to The Fire of Awakening are solid releases.

Everything between In the Glare of Burning Churches and Immortal Pride. After that I do like a lot the latest two albums (Will Stronger Than Death, Spears of Heaven) and latest EP (Cold Winter Blades). The albums between there are not bad but not something that I would take for a listen without thinking.

i wonder how many of you got turned on to Graveland from the Resistance Magazine article many years ago? does anyone remember this? i think it was when Thousand Swords was released and if i remember right they spoke of the Polish black metal scene and something about Thunderbolt going to prison? cant remember as it was so long ago and i lost my copy...definitely got my attention back then. Hail Rob Darken!

Did a member of Thunderbolt kill a priest? Think I read that in an old buttered up vdawg eBay auction...

Pretty much everything is worth having, but "Immortal Pride" is my favourite. Unique.
