That would be closer to the Norwegian phonetics, yes, the way we say it. I would not react if people outside Norway said it in english, though.

I just figured it couldn't be pronounced like the English word for a female horse. Or wait, is the band named "female horse?"

That episode is the best

Mare has the same meaning in both English(Mare/Mære) and Norwegian.
