Burzum persists. A new Burzum album, titled "Umskiptar" (Metamorphoses), is scheduled for release in May 2012 on Byelobog Productions. "Umskiptar" consists of 65 minutes of skaldic metal, recorded in Grieghallen Studio in Bergen in September 2011.

"Umskiptar" track list:

Blóđstokkinn (Soaked in Blood) (1:16)
Jóln (Deities) (5:51)
Alfadanz (Elven Dance) (9:22)
Hit helga Tré (The sacred Tree) (6:51)
Ćra (Honour) (3:58 )
Heiđr (Esteem) (3:02)
Valgaldr (Song of the Fallen) (8:03)
Galgviđr (Gallow Forest) (7:16)
Surtr Sunnan (Black from the South) (4:14)
Gullaldr (Golden Age) (10:20)
Níđhöggr (Attack from Below) (5:00)

The lyrics on "Umskiptar" are all taken from a Norse poem, Völuspá. For an English translation of the lyrics see the book "Sorcery And Religion In Ancient Scandinavia". The original Norse lyrics for "Umskiptar" can be found here.

He should just stick to writing entertaining crap and avoid these recent musical missteps of his.

New Burzum is always welcome. Really liked his last two albums.

i have my doubts that Varg is really interested in this sort of music anymore - and most likely does it for the income.. but never the less.. it will probably be pretty good fwiw.

Artwork is great, new Burzum has been brilliant post-incarceration and I'm glad that he's using old Norse titles again; I missed those Đs.

I wonder if he learned Old Icelandic in prison. Hardly interesting, sorry.

He used it on Dauđi Baudrs, which was written pre-prison so I'd assume he dabbled with it before. Either that, or he could've lifted it straight out of a bilingual Norwegian book. It's old Norse, not old Icelandic, isn't it?

I don't want to get into detail here, but Norse just means Old Norwegian. The language of Norway and Iceland ca. 850 - 1050 was virtually the same.

On a side note, if you happen to be interested in reading the Vǫluspá out of curiosity or for antiquarian or philological reasons, please note that there are far better English translations out there.

Poetically, yes, but as he said in his recent book- he translated them as plain and objectively as could be. He didn't make any attempt at making them poetic.

Dito. It can only be better than his attempts at re-recording his Black Metal-classics, too.
