Right away made me think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAK9oC3YPFU&feature=related
Probably not suited for this thread, but still. |

Necrophagia's Season Of The Dead really sounds cobwebbed and rotten all the way and has tons of atmosphere. |

There is none more evil and dark when it comes to death metal. |

Misery's Revel in Blasphemy is dark, menacing and crushingly intense. Never heard their other stuff, how does it compare? |

I think Atonement Ritual is one of the best in recent years. Haven't given the latest enough spins yet though. |
I agree with the OP. The new one is definitely the epitome of dark death metal.
Necros Christos is another. There are really too many that could fit this description. Early Incantation, early Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Immolation, Autopsy, Convulse, Deicide, etc.
Witchrist is a good newer one. |

I know it's not an evil record, but Immortal Fate - Beautiful is one of the darkest and suffocating dm records. I know i'll get some shit for this but i definitely think that they were easily one of the usa's heaviest.

Disciples of Mockery/Womb. Don't think it gets much more evil and subterranean. _________________ www.contagionreleasing.com

Surprised no one has yet mentioned:
IGNIVOMOUS - Death Transmutation.
You should definitely check out that Grave Miasma, too.
and as already mentioned , all the old Incantation albums are worth your time.
Necrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence has a fantastic dark and creepy atmosphere, but not quite as 'suffocating' as the bands above, but it's still well worth getting into if you haven't already. _________________
