MARE COGNITUM "Phobos Monolith" CD

(US - Cosmic black metal)

Californian one-man band MARE COGNITUM has already proven to be one of the leading forces in the progressive black metal field thanks to its two full-length releases and the "Sol" split with Spectral Lore. Since then the band's sole member, Jacob Buczarski has refined his songwriting and production skills even more, and is ready to offer his third voyage in the spaced-out realms of cosmic black metal.

Titled "Phobos Monolith," the album is scheduled for an October release through I, Voidhanger Records. Cover art by Luciana Nedelea.

Track list:

1. Weaving the Thread of Transcendence (13:03)
2. Entropic Hallucinations (8:13)
3. Noumenon (13:07)
4. Ephemeral Eternities (15:54)

One of the most anticipated releases of the year. He and the Spectral Lore dude are in the league of their own right now when it comes to atmo black imo.

I am definitely looking forward to this, and the cover artwork is very cool too.

Hoping the CD will come in a jewel case, though.

Pre-orders are officially open, CDs will be here in 2 weeks.

Reviews:

"In a sea of overproduced, low-content atmospheric black metal, it's easy to get discouraged and think the genre's best days are over. That is, until an album like Mare Cognitum's Phobos Monolith comes along. I wouldn't call this album a production so much as a handicraft, carefully assembled by one-man band Jacob Buczarski, and his dreamy, spaced-out black metal on the four tracks of the album is simultaneously bleak and gorgeous, darkly noisy and joyfully melodic."
METALREVIEWS.COM (95/100)

"Buczarski's rasps and growls remind us of the eminent, imminent hostility of the emptiness as it presses in on all of us, here on our fragile eggshell of a world, but the 'Phobos Monolith' as a whole serves as a symbol of space's eternal beauty, regardless of how much it is touched by the manifest destiny, or 'stain' of humanity, relative to how you personally view the gradual transmigration of our species."
FROM THE DUST RETURNED (8,25/10)

More reviews:

"The more one lets the imagination drift with each note, the more the music takes on greater life for the individual. Such is the beauty of complex art, and Phobos Monolith certainly is that. The album is so dynamic in both the light/dark and brutality/serenity senses, and yet is as instantly engaging as it is rewarding in the long term, that the feeling of escapism comes naturally.
Friends, this one is a stunner."
LAST RITES

"Perhaps the greatest compliment I can give is that Mare Cognitum stole my attention away from Blut Aus Nord. As expected, Memoria Vetusta III went right from my most-anticipated list to the top of my year-end list, and yet Ive been spending more time lately with Phobos Monolith."
TEETH OF THE DIVINE

"There are moments when I fear Metal is coming close to saying all it can say, and bemused I find myself returning for long periods to albums past for the feeling of that old spark of depth and ingenuity. But then albums like Phobos Monolith though rare are found, always waiting around Arts corner, ready to restore my faith in this music stemming from the shadow-side of existence, this music that resonates, and will do so, always."
WORM GEAR

"When the songs pick up speed the aggression breaks through and its the flawless conveyance of emotion that makes this album so stellar."
LORDS OF METAL - 81/100

"The very idea that a single person can compose an entire album in such an impressive manner is beyond me, but it only proves how much potential a truly creative person holds within, waiting to be unlocked."
ROCK FREAKS - 8,5/10

"From start to finish, Phobos Monolith seeps with grand, large-scale musical interpretations of the cosmos. The guitar riffs are imaginative and wrist-breaking; the drums rattle and rage; the synthesizer, the genres trusty stand-by, looms behind the tumult without ever getting too close. A great mix bolsters the extensive interplay between instruments, ensuring that every part of the chaos is heard."
ECHOES AND DUST

"...perhaps the best work from the creator and probably one of the more enjoyable atmospheric black metal records of the year."

Previous releases will be reissued in next couple of years, starting with "An Extraconscious Lucidity" in 2015, remastered and with new art.
