I think there was one on the first Enslaved album that I liked. not big on instrumentals unless its a lead-in to a song or appears in prog or doom.
and it was probably already mentioned but Blut Aus Nord - Procession Of Dead Clowns. gets me everytime. _________________ my records

Mr.Goldenbull, what about Enslaved's - Vikingligr Veldi CD ? I think the complete CD can nearly be counted as instrumental due to the tremendously long instrumental passages. Last song Norvegr is even withotu vocals. Absolutely stunning material, Enslaved at their best. _________________ Tradelist + Good Traders:

Yeah you're very right there. The intro is fucking incredible. It's extremely repetitive but it seems to keep building up forever and when the first fast part kicks in it's just unbelievable. But I've always liked the amount of space that album gives the riffs. Vocals should be used sparingly in atmospheric metal like that. Just a killer example. _________________

I'll add "the Rite of Mercury" from the first Secrets of the Moon album.
A really brilliant track. _________________

Not only "Pure" Black Metal but quality instrumentals nonetheless :
CELTIC FROST "Innocence and Wrath".
TORMENTOR "Dance of swords", "Intro" (on "Anno Bastardi") & "Lyssa".
SAMAEL "Rite of Cthulhu", "Last benediction" & "The Dark".
MASTER'S HAMMER "Ritual".
CARPATHIAN FOREST "Through the black veil of the Burgo Pass" (not really an instrumental, more a kind of a repetitive dark atmospheric stuff, but great anyway).
GRAVELAND "Carpathian wolves (Intro)" & "In the northern Carpathians (Intro)".
NAHASH "Intro (on "Nocticula Hecate").
ANCIENT RITES "Infant sacrifices to Baalberith"
SATYRICON "I en svart kiste".
CRADLE OF FILTH "Iscariot".
DECEMBER MOON "Exaltation of power" & "Winter sunset".
EMPEROR "The wanderer".
LIMBONIC ART "Arctic odyssey".
WINDIR "Sóknardalr".
KATHARSIS "Emeralde graves".
...and a lot of others (some already mentioned). |
