I can't see how that album or the one before it can be considered "late in their career"..... they still put out albums for another decade. Those albums are firmly in the middle of their discography.

Good point. I guess for me it seems like 99% of bands do best on their first album, with second and third being good and after that it's into the "OK" zone tapering down to embarrassing shit recorded to keep out of the poorhouse. Anything after that is "late career"!

Also, I must echo the Primordial sentiment. "To the Nameless Dead" is untouchable.

I agree with the Carcass mention. Only Heartwork is real. Other ideas:

1. There is no actual great Satyricon album but they didn't leave "completely fucking boring" territory until Rebel Extravaganza.

2. I like almost every track Asphyx ever recorded but the s/t LP and Embrace the Death are by far the best for me.

I think there are a lot of people who believe Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm is The Chasm's best so far. I still haven't gotten ahold of their early stuff yet so I can't say, but I definitely prefer it to the two albums before.

I'm always amazed with how WASP was able to turn things from a funny, pretty good band into a real ripper from this album on.

I disagree about Carcass. Symphonies of Sickness is a masterpiece of grind/death.

you seem to be the one person who agrees with me on this. However I dont care for anything after either, but Rebel Extravaganza is fucking crushing. I think it was Satyr coming off of doing vocals on the Thorns material but goddamn that record kills.

Edit: disagree on Inquisition, Into the Ancient Regions is till their best album in my book by a long shot
