So it got really hot here in the USA last week (I think it creeped up near 100 on one of the days) and I recently had two customers complain of vinyl warping.
Is there any way to help prevent this? I can't think of any measures that would help a package that's left to bake in a postal truck for an inordinate amount of time. Maybe I should start sending parcels in dry ice?? _________________ http://www.fallenempirerecords.com/

Well, I think shipping time will have to decrease, so it may be best to have customers ship using Media Mail at their own risk. I did have one customer change their shipping to Priority because they said they got a warped record from another distro (not yours) due to the heat.
I haven't had anyone complain of this yet, so hopefully it's just isolated to you. _________________

Yeah I think upgrade to Priority would be best/only thing effective against this. Kinda like a condom, helps but there's no guarantee.
I'll have to make a note on my site. _________________ http://www.fallenempirerecords.com/

| My DSO "Drought" mLP arrived warped last week. Still totally playable, but boy does that stylus move up and down on that sucker. The only time I've received one so badly warped that it would not play properly was the Year of The Goat mLP last year that came directly from VAN records.... luckily I ordered the cd too... |

i dont think its just the heat "warping" the record... its a combination of both the heat and the pressure applied to the package during transit... when the record is sitting under 300-400 pounds of pressure @ 100+ degrees then yes its going to be warped... but heat alone will not warp a record to an unplayable state... so yes the best solution is to reduce transit time and have people upgrade to priority...
i rarely do media mail unless its a distro that packages the shit out of their orders... (NWN, HHR, 20BuckSpin, im sure theres more...) |

very true. I imagine in these instances I just got unlucky and had my parcel sitting in the truck underneath some uneven weight combined with the heat. The DSO was shipped priority too... Oh well, nothing I or the distros can do except keep your fingers crossed this time of year. |

Here's a good method to fix warped vinyls. If applied correctly, it works. _________________ WANT LIST

Should really be fine unless the records were pressed very badly, you live in a swamp where it rains indoors, or you leave them facing the window of the afternoon sun _________________ Ignivomous merch: abaddon_963[at]hotmail.com
