Because 99.9% of people on this forum have no idea what powerlifting actually is, nor is it the forum on which you'd imagine there would be any real discussion surrounding it. |
This forum, on the other hand...

| Best forum I've been involved in was one solely for discussing Sheiko. |

I've actually met a few bonafide metalheads at various gyms throughout the years. Probably because most of my lifting shirts tend to be old and beatup metal shirts that have now been rendered sleeveless, heh. |
5/3/1 is probably the best strength routine I've ever done. Very simplistic and highly effective, never been stronger.
I actually saw Wendler in attendance at Maryland Deathfest 2009 and 2010. Josh Barnett was also at MDF 2009 lol. |
Barnett is a fucking master, juiced up at one time or not. He's arguably the most well rounded HW on the planet. I wish they could just unify the HW divisions right now, so I could see JDS vs Barnett. |

I used to be crazy about weightlifting in my younger years. I had a good metal friend and we would usually lift weights while listening to Slayer - Reign In Blood, then we'd go eat a bunch of eggs. Those were the days hehe. Over the past years I've become a lazy drunkard I suppose, anyhow this thread is inspiring and maybe it's time I shape up and get back into exercise. _________________ "By all evidence we are in the world to do nothing."

I used to lift with some fucking monsters. One of the guys holds/held the raw senior division flat bench record for the state of Florida. I think it was something like 465lbs at the age of 47.
I was at my strongest then, but my appendix ruptured before my first meet and I have been trying to get back to that level ever since.
It should never be a bravado type thing. It's just fun testing your physical limits. I only lift weights two days a week now. I run and do plyometrics another three days. After my hernia surgery, I had to restructure my lifestyle. Having three surgeries within a year and a half fucking sucked. |

Scot Mendelson is around that age and does over 1000lbs, though I don't think that's raw. Guy has the record for bench though with straps and kitted up.
Bad luck with all that surgery though, that's pretty shit! |

Kitted up as in the tight suits they wear for powerlifting comps.
Roids, eh well...I could hop on a cycle (a.k.a. roid) for about £50 for 6 weeks and gain around 5-8lbs of lean mass and, if diet and all is in check, keep it on. Pretty safe (not completely, mind) if you know how to do it. |

Yeah, that's ridiculous. I've seen videos of that guy. I am sure he is not exactly "clean," aside from the straps and suit. Still, fucking crazy any way you look at it.
I am feeling pretty good now. I just pay extra attention to the way my body feels. I don't max at all anymore. I just change up rep ranges. I don't go lower than three reps on anything. No supps either. I just eat clean and workout hard. At this point I know I am not ever going to do it competitively, it's just fun. |

Who is Jim Wendler? Is he playing in a metal band? if so, is this band "satanic"? if not, why are we talking about "satanic powerlifting"? |

Killer shot.
If more losers in metal actually powerlifted and/or exercised, they wouldn't be losers. |

Hahaha, I'm guilty of doing the same. But usually these people crying about guys showing their muscles being gay are either puny runts or too embarrassingly out of shape to take their shirts off. _________________
