'Hvis Lyset Tar Oss'.

Elend's oppressive neoclassical material, which has a few things in common with (good) Black Metal.

Just realized, is the Devorator release different from the Following the Tracks of the Demonic Beast demo or the same thing with another title or an alternative translation?

That's an alternative translation from which I always used, but since it came from the band, let it be official. Original title and all of the Monumental lyrics are in Russian though, easily the most impressive ones from related to Devil Cult I've ever read in native language...

I think bands who are putting out 70 minute albums are treading a fine line. Not only is the length likely a deterrent for repeated listens, it opens itself up for many weak points or doing too much in some cases. The ideal album length is probably about 40-45 min with a max ideal length being around 50 or 55 min. Just my personal thoughts.

I tend to agree with this - 45 minutes seems ideal to me.

Case in point is Watain's Lawless Darkness which is much too long. You can dip into that album at any point and the songwriting is impressive, but listening to the whole thing in one sitting is really testing.

I prefer 30 entertaining minutes to 45 stretched ones. Early Deicide comes to my mind.

Yeah there is something to be said for leaving you wanting more. But when an album is 30 minutes of pure uncut triumph but then it suddenly stops, it can be almost as infuriating as a bloated 70+ minute album. Especially if it cost a lot, or the band only releases records every few years.

How about a one hundred year long disc or vinyl set? You listen to it all your life, and you probably never finish it. Yosuke could deliver the gigantic crates of vinyls by hellicopter, dropping them and crushing houses.

Someone said this discussion is boring, so thought I'd write something silly hehe.

Everytime I listen to a GORGOROTH album or Reign in Blood for example I feel like after a rollercoaster ride... Totally satisfied but I just have to play it again Smile

50+ min albums bore me....

Unless I'm going to burn them, I don't even notice their length.
Most of the really long ones are padded, like they're getting paid by the minute or something, like whats-er-name.
np Agantyr Haevn, surely hope he'll make another this much to my taste.
