As far as I am concerned the entire discography is flawless, though 1184 is what made me discover Windir. I have fond memories of walking through the streets of Salamanca at night whilst listening to The Spiritlord, in particular. That bloody solo is awesome (as is the one from Likbør on the first LP, mind).

I presume this topic has been made before, and there may be nothing new to add to the discussion of this band, but damn could Valfar write music.

I really recall liking Likferd.
I should give these albums all a spin again soon, its been a good decade since listening to any of them actually ...and I have Likferd, Arntor, and 1184 here.

Windir have been one of my favourite bands since I first heard them in about 2004.

Every album is great in its own unique way so I find it hard to pick a best one.i will go by individual songs that I like:

Journey to the end is one of my all time favourite songs

Svartesmeden Og Lundamyrstrollet has to be another all time time favourite with such hypnotic guitar work

other great songs:

Mørket Sin Fyrste
Saknet

I like too how that when Valfar died the band didn't try to milk the Windir name and carry on using but instead created Vreid

First two vreid albums were very good but then I lost interest

Definitely Arntor, so many good riffs on that one. Their discography as a whole is pretty consistent, shame the band ended the way it did.

Sóknardalr

That sweet organ in Det som var Haukareid always gets me.

Does anyone have knowledge as to why there hasn't been Windir vinyl pressings? Who owns the rights at this point? Makes no sense.

I'm sure Blood Music will be looking into it.

I haven't listened to Windir in forever, so I can't remember which is which, but the album by Cor Scorpii was really good, totally recommended to those who liked the 'classical music' part of Windir.

I assume Head Not Found, or maybe Tabu since they did the final compilation release.

If they were to be reissued I'd like something simple like the Abigor box, nothing over the top, just the original sleeves and black vinyl.

Agreed. It is time for this. And if not, then at least some high quality cassette pressings.

Yes and the same goes for Mistur - Attende. There are times when that album outclasses Cor Scorpii, but both are the best things to follow Windir's style, the classical elements in particular. And both bands are releasing new albums, Mistur having recently announced theirs for an early 2016 release.

I haven't listened to Windir in a while, but maybe I should.

Arntor!

I've always been curious about the vinyl question as well. I've wondered if this band has been lumped in with all the other viking metal stuff that was popping up everywhere ten years ago. To me, this band has stood out though and I revisit them every few months.

Arntor without a doubt. Flawless guitar work and atmosphere there.
