Well not necessarily, contact was made through snail mail and adverts on local magazines instead of email and forums but the whole procedure was basically the same, just lots slower of course. I remember xeroxing trade/want lists and mailing them as regular flyers inside envelopes, worked fairly well in the end. _________________ Thread derailed

Interested in trading a dub of Apokalypsimz for a dub of Purpurearagotamiceps?

Why have a collection of shit youve just got through bidding or simply pressing "buy it now" to get?
Anyone with a few credit cards could post a picture of the best ever die-hard,burzum,deathcrush,moonblood or whatever else collection within a month from now having started with nothing...
Would it be impressive? 666 scene points? king of the forum for a year?
The days of collecting are really pointless. Nothing is collectable and nothing is rare since if you miss one Ebay listing you simply wait for another one (or simply start bidding on the dozens of other auctions selling the same item) |
Good points if you're someone who is collecting just for the sake of the collection.
But,if you are actually going to play the vinyl what difference does it make how you aquired it.
I get the most satisfaction out of listening to my records, that I just won off of ebay,or picked up from Discogs, not looking at them on the shelf,or posting pics of them. |
I guess he means it's easy to track down the records you want thesedays when you have things like ebay and discogs. Before you had to just wait around and hope for the best that you'd come across something in a second hand store or on a trip abroad. |
It's not true. Some of us spend years tracking down rare records. I still have a wantlist from five years ago that I'm working through. Half the records I've still never seen pictures of. |
Yah, it's not as easy as it sounds. Some items are simply incredibly rare, and even with sites like metal-archives, new information is being realized all the time with respect to older albums and editions, and I'm seeing rarities pop up that I (and nearly everybody else) had no idea even existed.
Then there's the issue of money since you know the items likely won't sell for cheap, and also the competition of other potential buyers.
Besides, I don't care if someone bought an entire decade of metal albums online over the course of one year; an impressive collection is still an impressive collection. |

Have to agree here. Sure common stuff and even not so common stuff can be had at times with plenty of money. Put a 1 in front of that 5 and that is how long I've looked for some metal and hard rock records I've still never seen pictures of. So in many ways nothing has changed...

nice band! in early 90's I traded a lot of letters with a dude from this band! don't remember if he was the vocalist or guitarist. I surely have a couple of those demo tapes too! _________________
