Above average, but not masterpiece-level, imo; it's a fun album to play occasionally and sing along with the lyrics in an idiotic voice. That's about it. _________________ Good deals with: Numerator41, addison, deathsleep, witch sermon, xyosefx, invinCIBility, Weltbrand |

Weird that so many vote just not interesting.
Really this is one of my favorite albums ever. I didnt like it the first few times I spun it. I loved Apera and couldnt get into it. But this is easily one of the deepest and most complex albums ever. Layers upon layers of music hidden within each track. Someone should repress this as Im sure a wax version would reveal even more. Granted I do not expect this to be a popular album here, its a far cry from death/black that is often enjoyed on this site.
For those who werent into metal back when it came out, one thing you have to understand is that this was so far ahead of anything that aimed to be avant garde in metal. I dont think even to this day anything has come out so far from left field against the norm, it truely was a unique experience that showed how far metal can be taken. Plus the musicianship is so masterful. Brilliant leads, tasteful drumming, good singing and Sverd's keyboard solos, IMO, are better any that have ever been and maybe ever will be .....the man can play those fucking keys.
Did all of you figure out the meaning of the message on the cd spine "hidden audio information can be found.....?"
There is a hidden track at the very beginning of the cd. Not all cd players will allow you to rewind at the beginning of the first track, but my old kenwood would and there is about a minute of a song before the first track. _________________ People I want to kill: Russell Brand....fucking annoying. |

| I only voted average because the option of "good but not great" wasn't available. |

| I don't like it as much as I used to, but The Sham Mirrors will always be one of my utmost favorites. Incredible song writing. |

This right here. Those first 3 tracks are amazing and then it turns to goofing off shit. |

Wonder what the chances of this getting repressed are ?
Is this on Peaceville like Thorns and all the recent Darkthrone reissues etc etc ? |

I totally agree with this, 'La Masquerade..' is a great example of avant garde BM that WAS very different at the time, but that first Peccatum album is beyond awful. It aspired to this avant garde style but got bogged down in a mire terrible sounds. I found it unlistenable. _________________ Seance Records

Candlelight reissued this Arcturus, VBE-written... and Fleurety- mid tin... on cd in 03. Maybe they still have the rights to it? |

Well, it's certainly one album worth repressing again to vinyl format I would say.
I wish that Ulver character Garm would show more interest again in applying his vocal style to weird stuff like this, instead of whatever that recent Ulver material is... well, queer radio rock tripe basically. A shame really. |
