I know Maeror Tri, the stuff Aphex Twin did, Klaus Schulze and TD.
What else is essential? I know Brian Eno is the quite the originator, but where to start with him?
Edit: Sorry if there was a thread for this already _________________

LEYLAND KIRBY - "Sadly, The Future is No Longer What is Was"
Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd6Q2HSDoYc
This album spans 3CDs/6LPs, so it's hard to get a feel from 1 track, but it's the single most rewarding Ambient album I've purchased in the past 10 years. _________________ ANTITHEIST DISSEMINATIONS |

I'm a huge fan of the Ambient Works disc from AT as well, can you recommend anything that has a similar atmosphere/vibe? I remember giving The Orb a shot about 10 years ago, but found it too club-y. |

Lustmord's The Place Where The Black Stars Hang is one of the best Dark Ambient albums in my opinion. It's the ultimate 'deep dark space' type of atmosphere and sound.
Legion's False Dawn album is fantastic in that vein as well but somewhat hard to find as far as I recall. |

Yeah, except for that one track with the gay singing in the middle.... _________________ http://www.last.fm/user/ngadke |

Maybe Global Communications 76:14 album? I never got to into the whole "ambient techno" thing myself but that one is great.... _________________ http://www.last.fm/user/ngadke |
