dont misunderstand me, im not a noob, i have this cd so many years in my collection but never came to listen to it so well and now im sorting out my collection as it just has too many releases i never really listened to (still not through with EMPEROR! lol).
i remember the release didnt stick in my head like a burzum cd, dimmu borgir for all tid, or whoever else, and i just listened to it in full.

well, im not surprised somehow why it didnt stick in my head, the songs are bland for my taste, wild played, nothing really remarkable only the artwork. i had a newer arcturus cd which was much different but i didnt like it either, i expected better from this so called CULT release. anybody feelin the same?

yes nonetheless topic i guess but somehow i am just very disappointed i dont like it and dont understand the praise at all, i prefer a lot more unknown and so called crap cds more over this one.

There are certain bands/albums in metal that you have to like not to be called gay, poser etc, Arcturus is just one of them.

Seriously, it's a fairly good record if you're into that post '95 melancholic/progressive/younameit kind of "black" metal. Doesn't do much for me either.

It's not really that complicated. You don't like it, but a lot of people do. I'm sure everyone here dislikes something that gets a lot of praise (I never got into Beherit for example), each to his own...

Pretty much, it's all subjective. It's not an album that I highyl praise (or any Arcturus for that matter) but I've got a quite a few friends that go spastic over it, and I can understand why, it's just not for me

Try 'My Angel' and 'Constellation'. Far superior to 'Aspera...'.

i like it b/c it's nice spacey bm, nothing more...everything they did afterward doesn't compare, too circus-y and/or toomuch trip-hop influence...

I bought this one and 'the sham mirrors' before I got internet. I like the later better, and I'm not a big fan of avantgarde-ish metal.
In fact I sold my Aspera cd a couple months ago, not regreting it al all Very Happy

Having heard this when I was about 14 or 15, it was one of the first records to show me that there can be more to metal than blast beats, fast riffs and growling/shrieking. It's got a special place for me in that regard, and tracks like "Fall of Man" still have the potential to make the hair on my arm raise if it catches me in the right mood.

When out it was completely a new sound, quite strange, I remember that after the first time I was surprised, the same happened with In the Woods. The not so "good" distribution in terms of unit pressed did the rest.
