I am planning a move from the US to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I know practically nothing about the place. I know even less if there are active metal bands from the region or anything related (record shops, destinations, etc).

If there are any natives or people in the know, any information would be helpful.

Thanks.

Best city in the world.

Forget metal for a while and just enjoy the glorious steaks.

Can't go wrong with that advice. Fantastic city, but I'm not sure if it has much going on metal wise.

Very active scene, just expect a lot of third rate Testament/Megadeth clones and dull ass power metal. There's always some kind of show going on, though a lot of them are small. If you want to see an international band, expect to pay out the ass. Pretty much all the big shows that came around while I was there were in the $50-60 range. Might be more now with their economy in the shitter.

I honestly don't remember the names of many record shops, but I'm sure some other posters can give you lots of help like they gave me. That Fermin dude in Parque Rivadavia has a ton of CDs, though he overprices some of the rarer Argento things. There's also a bunch of places in the same park selling CDs and shit, so it's a good place to go for a look around.

I thought the other metalheads I met there were really nice. Some of that was probably me being a white boy, and some my girlfriend down there being really well known in the scene, but shouldn't be any problem. They seem to like throwing around a little English.

And the meat down there is fucking fantastic.

Speaking about extreme metal, Argentina have NOTHING! Maybe some heavy metal/rock n roll bands.

Food is good and girls! The girls in Argentina are veeeeery good!

This. And Twilight Records maybe? With the shitty importing laws by our lady prez, expect prices to be not as cheap as a decade ago.

Regarding bands, there's a handful of good ones: Gevurahel, Wolf and Winter... but mostly second rate thrash and power metal stuffs. Patagonia is where the real Black Metal is.

I found this old band Riff that I have never heard of. Pretty cool Thin Lizzy/ACDC esque stuff.

Fuck, jealous! I'm half-Argentine, haven't been back in forever! Don't know shit about the metal scene, unfortunately. Nor would my Limp Bizkit-obsessed cousin who lives there Laughing .
