Greatest comedy of all time next to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

The Naked Gun films are better.

Yeah the rumor of this film has been going on for at least 5 years, but they are legitimately filming it right now, for release on November 14th of this year.

Can't wait! Been following it since the news came out! C-Bass is even going to be in it.

I think it's "Sea Bass", like the fish. I had no idea he was going to be in it...fucking awesome ! Razz

On topic of silly movies, the first Hot Shots is really funny to me. I love when Lloyd Bridges is getting off the airplane and is getting briefed on the attack plans :

"Sir, we attack the target at 0600 hours"

Lloyd Bridges "Great. Wake me up at, oooooooooo, 530"

Yes, Sea-Bass, you're right. My spelling was more akin to him being a shitty west coast rapper. Moving along with more silly movies, I have to toss in Police Academy, UHF, and a Fish Called Wanda. All classics!

It's really tricky to follow properly, but once i read a couple of reviews and found the answers it makes more sense.

Good film anyway. More directors should take note.

Visitor Q was so fucked. I never really understood that movie. Seemed like it was for pure shock, I mean the child abuse, the dead women shitting herself, etc.

The past two nights I watched Kill List and A Field in England. Two awesome Ben Wheatley films. These were my first experiences with this director, and I really enjoyed the subtle(ish) humor, as well as the strange sort of vague/withheld story-telling and endings. But christ did Kill List make me feel like an idiot, I actually had to turn the subtitles on for the first half of the movie. Hushed intense Brit arguments aren't exactly easy to understand for an uncultured American such as myself. But anyways, both films come highly recommended from me.

Oh, and also somewhere inbetween I snuck in Anchorman. Laughing

Next, I'm looking forward to catching up with the second half of the Walking Dead season. I'm not sure how you all feel about this show, but I enjoyed the midseason finale.

Don't feel like an idiot about Kill List. That movie is definitely a mind fuck, and you have to have the volume turned so damn loud just to hear it. I really enjoyed it and found it to be very David Lynch like. I read a detailed analysis of the film that helped me understand it better.

Love those films. You're right, both Kill List and A field in England have humour..quite a British sense of humour, in both. All his films seem quite uniquely British to me.

Check out Down Terrace and Sightseers too. The latter is a black comedy, so the comedy is obviously, slightly less subtle!

Have you seen Neds? You might like that, but if you have trouble understanding Scottish accents, you might need to use the subtitles for that too!

Talking of Scots, I watched Filth the other night. Really enjoyed it. Makes me want to re-read the book again, as I haven't read it for many a year. I was wondering how they were going to incorporate the tapeworm in the film, and they did a good job in my view. Surreal, dark and moving...I don't think the book humanised him quite so much though..

I've been on an old western kick lately and Sabata is one of the better ones I've seen. Lee fucking Van Cleef!

@Ecstatic_Horror: Thanks for the link, I really needed something like that as the ending indeed left me totally mind fucked. I'll have to re-watch it sometime with the second theory in-mind.

@Dismal: We're definitely in agreement on the undeniably Britishness of his films (much to the dismay of my girlfriend whom I watched them both with; she hates British movies Laughing). Thanks for the recommendations, I'll have to check them out. I'm excited to see his take on a more flat-out comedy, as the subtle comedic efforts in the other two had me laughing quite a bit. And as for Neds I haven't seen it, I'll check that one out too (and I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up having to use subtitles again...Embarassed).

The Couch Trip and maybe The Big Lebowski are some of the best comedies ever made.
