10 years ago these guys would have NEVER done this
But the genre is so dead/stagnant they're consenting to essentially a Vice Magazine version of "Where Are They Now" special

Of course this is going to be presented in a subjective fashion, the creators need the characters to appear to be a certain way.
"Black metal has always been outsider art in its most brutal form."
Black metal was doomed to scrutiny from its inception. It forces artists to maintain a single dimensional representation of themselves, or else the public will cry deceit. People are not one dimensional, and this perpetual effort by the media to pigeonhole these artists and this genre does more harm than good, I think.
