Why, because he has the balls to put on the cape and scream his little heart out?! To really put himself out there!?? I like how everyone that's a little different is considered retarded. These people are human beings not robots!! Metal should be about diversity, rebellion and celebration of the human spirit! I for one am thankful for the look these men gave us into their lives! The thought of one of them reading "Hurr Hurr..durr .. they're fags" makes my eyes well up in RAGE! My fists and my teeth are CLENCHED right now!!! |

I get the impression that in Tasmania, even amongst other black metallers Russell and Striborg isn't looked upon too fondly.
I got a zine from Tasmania recently that was written about nothing but Tasmanian Black Metal and the editor devoted 1.5 pages to a review of Striborg's Misanthropic Isolation album that ended up being more about why the editor didn't like Russell, such as his collaborations with Southern Lord and the impact of it.
There's plenty of people doing weird things for their art in Tasmania, but nothing as bizarre as being filmed in a cave, screaming in a cape.

| Honestly i am glad that i do not own a single record from any of these "projects" / guys. I got the impression these people take themselfes a bit too important while being quite "standard wanna-be elite-artists" - which they definetly are not. And yes, the Striborg and Xasthur guys seem a bit "different" to me too - i can not see anything "superior", "elite", "extraordinary" or even interesting in their lifestyle or art at all. "Depressive Black Metal" (a pseudonym for Strid-rip-off?) and american lifestyle is not fitting very well. Anyway, it is amusing to see some mongoloid guy playing drums while goats and dogs run around a farm that looks like a headquater of gypsies... These people would have been better hippies i guess... |

guy looks like a typical IT worker tbh.
pretty sure Xasthur's married. Or at least he claimed to be in early interviews. remember because it just seemed like an un-"misanthropic" thing to do.
