Just thought of this noticing the Social Distortion thread, always knew them and realize people are into them but for one reason or another never heard them. There are others too of course:

- Swans
- Gism
- Social Distortion

Just the first three that came to mind. Might be a good idea to limit your choises to ones somehow related to metal and a bit better known than the guys from the garage next door.

I think I get where this thread is going. If so, Moonsorrow. Always knew they existed but never listened to their stuff until last month when I heard the album that sounds a lot like Bathory stuff. Was epic.

Pretty much all UG bands mentioned on this board. Meaning the ones with embarrassingly hilarious names that release worthless tapes on unknown labels from some 3rd world country, sound like generic black metal garbage yet score shitloads of enthusiastic "ORDERED!", "email sent", "This is great!" comments from clueless turds who deadly serious describe their music as "a mix between Judas Iscariot, Gontyna Kry and Brenoritvrezorkre with Velvet Cacoon meets Peste Noir meets Draughen kind of vocals" (as if those bands had a unique style and weren't poor copies of the real deals themselves).

Needless to say I'm glad I don't know about those "bands".

Off topic, but I'm curious, do the Swans fans here like all eras of the band? I'm really only a fan of the early stuff, up to and including Children of God. The albums that came after have some good moments, and I like most of The Great Annihilator, and I haven't checked out the newer releases.

The releases I come back to most are Cop, Young God, Greed, Holy Money, A Screw, Time is Money (Bastard), which all happen to be on the Cop/Young God and Greed/Holy Money compilation releases.

Iron Maiden's the big one. I've only listened to a couple of their albums and it was years ago when i was just a little kid. At the time, the choice was Metallica or Iron Maiden, and Maiden just wasn't edgy/dark enough for me. Then Slayer quickly followed and it was all downhill from there.

Judas Priest too. They were too "weak" for me when I was a kid so I never payed them much attention. Still don't care.
