Which up and coming bands do you think will make an impact on the scene in the next couple of years ? Im looking for bands at the demo stage or established with an ep or first album.

My vote would go to Ysengrin. It's impossible to say whether a band will reach a certain level of popularity but I can certainly say that it should happen. But anyway, so far the hype trains have passed by the more diverse sounds you can find in the old Greek scene, or more unique bands like Mortuary Drape, etc., and Ysengrin explore that sort of material really fucking well. They're going to get more exposure via NWN in the next couple years so I hope it works out well for them.

Beyond making guesses, the sad fact is that "impact" these days depends a lot more on who recommends bands to the public than the quality of the bands themselves. I suppose in the end your question would be better directed to Fenriz or Kim Kelly. Laughing

Also any of the higher quality and more unique sounding bands could take off a bit more. Stargazer, Wulkanaz, stuff with a different sound that hasn't quite made it out of smaller metalhead circles.

If I had to take NWN board hype as an indicator of impact and quality, then virtually any black/death EP from Bhutan that uses reverb-filled production and occult gimmicks is totally essential.

LOL
well; I like black metal, I like sloppy grind, I like harsh noise, I like martial music.. yet I can't for some reason get into this whole hyperdrive crazy cacophonous cassette metal that seems to be "something" now

You're actually right, tapes would be more accurate Laughing

Not to be a whiner - I'd like to see more bands take the path of Stained Glass Revelations (or even the last Tribulation) - focusing both on atmosphere and on memorable songwriting, with good musical skills; taking influence from the classics but not just mimicking them in a superficial way. What is also VERY important is not to just copy other metal bands, but have influences from different genres to reach more individuality/originality.

In a more general way: less stupid gimmicks, more quality music.

My thoughts exactly! Too bad it is a really small minority (by that I mean bands) that think this way.

The new Korn/Perturbator album is going to fucking blow up.
