Hm, I think there is no band with this special Nattens Madrigal sound. Maybe try the Vantro/Grenjar Split - Svart Sammensvergelse.
I can also recommend you some bands with the "raw melancholic norwegian" sound:

Isvind - Nivelheimen demo
Knokkelklang - Eksistens demo, Kalk & Aske demo
Min Kniv - Av Aske demo
Morgul - In Gowns Flowing Wide demo
Mørkekunst - Mørkekunst EP
Öde - Schimmenwoud
Sarath - Siste Indre
Selvhat - Everything
Skuggeheim - Everthing (Vargnatt worship!)
Tartaros - The Heritage from the Past demo
Vemod - Everything

Not really Nattens Madrigal related, but still great records.

The first Kallathon demo "Before Drifting into the Abyss" is also awesome.

Definitely Volahn. The first tape could have been outtakes from Nattens Madrigal.

I tried to copy the guitar sound with SHRINE....
Using a HM2 and everyhing....
But in the end it did not turn out like that.
Especially since the music is different in the first place...

This VOHLAN track posted is really the closest sounding piece of music
to Nattens Madrigal I ever heard... and I´m looking for anything like
that since ages...

Came here to say this. Nothing else sounds as much like Nattens Madgrigal than that Volahn LP

I always assumed the distortion on that was a combination of a Metal Zone (because of how sharp it is) and an overloaded mixing board.

Totally forgot how killer that Volahn album is. Kind of a pity those guys didn't keep going with that and instead formed too many boring uninspired offshoot bands.

To me it sounds more like a HM2. But of course that´s just my assumption, don´t know for sure.... And yes, the mixing is over the top as well....
