You can argue if anything they/he did have actually been metal, although many would argue they have, but without a doubt this band made a big mark on aggressive and provocative music, having been there from more or less the start.

If you, like me, think proto-punk started in the early 70īs with bands like MC5 and the Stooges, then you can draw the line to metal pretty fucking quickly. The aggression and attitude of these bands kinda set a tone that some would argue have never been equalled. Raw Power for example.

Many canīt handle the pure weirdness of Iggy himself, or his forays into more commercial work like some of his Bowie influenced stuff or his synthesizer moments and think he sold out. Itīs all a bit hit or miss, with the lows being fucking shit and the highs being mind bending if you ask me.

Letīs hear your thoughts.

Always was completely indifferent to me although we even played some of his songs as rehearsal covers in the teens. Please link some relevant / significant songs on youtube so I can make up my mind.

The S/T is a stone cold classic. I never dug Fun House as much as other people I know, and I love the Bowie mix of Raw Power.

We Will Fall is probably the best song fucking EVER.

Great band, like so many tarnished by another needless string of albums and reunions. Were they good? I don't know, I have no interest in such things.

First album and Fun House are total classics. Those were dangerous records back then...

The Stooges from 1969-74 rule. "I got a right" is total punk years before it existed. (Some) Iggy solo stuff is cool too. Haven't heard the new Stooges albums, but I saw them live in 2004.

Love the stooges and bands that sound like the stooges for example the saints or radio birdman.

Also loved the work Iggy did with Death in Vegas

It never occurred to me that there was someone out there who thinks "We Will Fall" was the Stooges one saving grace. Crazy.

HUGE in my life. All of their records in different ways. But if you're coming from metal, RAW POWER, because James Williamson is one of the all-time great riff-ists. The Bowie mix is kind of a bummer, I like the remix they did sometime in the oughts.

Hardly, compared to some of the music that gets discussed here. More relevant than CoF.

Fun House is great.

respected, but oddly I've always been more into the bands that the Stooges and MC5 (and the Dolls) have directly influenced than those bands themselves, The Dictators, The Electric Eels, Johnny Thunders and the Hearbreakers, Death, Crime, the Pagans, Radio Birdman, The Saints, etc

Obviously much more punk than metal in attitude and sound. But a great band regardless. I love those first three albums, they're towering classics.
