You can just download everything already, can't you? I don't see any point in "digital pre-release" of Ildjarn other than cashing in as quick as possible, even though I doubt there'll be many ppl willing to pay money for an Ildjarn mp3.
Plus, SOM has said not all "but most" of the records will be available physically too. Do they want to see how good the mp3's are selling before they decide which one of the releases will be put on CD or LP? That's pretty lame IMO.
We'll see what's going to happen next year, if the world last that long...

| It can also be about contract issues, cds and even some vinyls were released by different labels, so maybe SOM doesn't have all rights, with the exception of digital releases as those were never part of the original contracts anyway. |

Of course, but it's founded to assume, I'd say, that sound files based on the original masters (if SoM use these as their resources?) will provide higher-fidelity sound than any 128kbps MP3s - or even someone's clumsy personal rip from the Northern Heritage LPs.
Also, for potential customers, the purchase of a MP3 album from an official distributor will probably render said collection of sound files more "legit" than if they had obtained it from filesharing sites and whatnot (personally, I think such a notion is foolish, but alas, there's enough fools around).
You're absolutely right, however, that this would not at all be a sufficient reason to not release certain Ildjarn records other than in digital format, and it does very much seem like a cash grab, I agree.

I notice the complete Ildjarn-Nidhogg comp isn't on the list of future LP releases. Since that's the only one I need I find it even easier to avoid this silly shit.
