When you ship LP records, how do you pack in order to prevent damage ?
Any commercially made mailer box to recommend, or do you use your own packaging material ? I want to hear your experience both from senders and recipients. |

i save the boxes Hells Headbangers and NWN use. they don't get destroyed in transit unlike those thin crappy ones. also pack the lp on the outside of the jacket and in the paper sleeve. it's best to add extra material to where the lp doesnt move around in transit inside the box too, like another sheet of cardboard or plastic bags or bubble wrap to fill space (although plastic bags/bubble wrap wont protect it as well as extra cardboard, just fills up extra room and doesnt weigh hardly anything). just what i do at least, and use a sturdy clear packing tape, no scotch tape, etc. in the US i always use Delivery Confirmation too. never had a bad complaint about anyone receiving an lp from me anywhere. _________________ good users |

| I always wrap the LP and jacket in bubble wrap before putting it in the mailer. I can't understand people especially labels who don't do it this way most of the places I order from just put the LP in the mailer and that's it. Putting the LP in bubble wrap takes longer but it nearly guarantees no damage to the vinyl or jacket. |

There's an old thread on here with tons of good methods.
Not packing, per say, but it's also a great idea to put some packing tape over the recipient's address, as well as the return address if you're writing on the box with pen/marker etc. I run a shipping/receiving department and you would not believe the amount of things that get lost in transit because of addresses getting wet and rubbing off or being obscured to the point they cannot be delivered. A simple piece of tape solves all this.
Get that fucking cat off the turntable !

The key to shipping vinyl securely is to pack it TIGHT. If you shake the mailer and you can hear anything shuffling around inside, you need more bubble wrap/cardboard inserts/etc. _________________

When trading with Germans (and if I got my part of the deal already) I'll use bubble envelopes only. I want the lp to come totally warped and see them cry a river cuz their precious collectors item isn't MINT/MINT!!!! anymore. It usually leads to hilarious complaints in typical kraut-broken English from their side -sometimes degenerating into threats of physical violence even. _________________ Thread derailed

| I've said it here before, but regular mailer into HHR mailer. If sending domestic there's no reason not to do this. |

honestly, a single HHR mailer is good enough for almost anything... best single mailer design out there IMO! I received a pretty interesting mailer that was exclusive to sound stage direct once, but even then I say the HHR mailers have what seems to be a sturdier cardboard material, which would resist damages or punctures better

| Manila envelope with zero padding. Or just tape the plastic outer shut and affix postage/address to that. |
