From ztmag.com

"London maniacs Craven Idol have signed to US underground heavyweights Dark Descent Records, promising a debut LP for the new year.

Dark Descent announced the signing of the black/thrash bastards last week and will release their first full-length, ‘Auras of Undeath’ [working title], in 2013 via CD/LP formats.

According to a press release from Dark Descent and the band, Craven Idol “have completed 8 new offerings of ripping black metal, channelled with a vitriol akin to Nifelheim and Absu, with further allegiances to the dark arts of Inquisition and Samael. Musically the release is an assault on those who neglect the potent legacy of the 1980s, while thematically it attacks all proponents of unfounded spiritual dogma.”

This recording follows the band’s previous statement, ‘Ethereal Altars’, released on CD and 12” by Hammer of Hate Records in 2010.

Craven Idol’s grandmaster dictator and bestial tyrant of fury, Vrath, spoke to ZT about the signing, saying:

“To our mind, Dark Descent embodies the best in extreme underground metal today, and we are most proud to join a label that shares our musical inclinations. Recent releases by Vorum, Vassafor, Desolate Shrine, and Binah (just to name a few) are amongst recent personal favourites. Craven Idol fits seamlessly into this roster of bands and are looking forward to working with Dark Descent. It shall slay!”

Since forming in 2005, the band have conducted several live performances in the UK and overseas, sharing stages with powers such as Inquisition, Necros Christos, Vomitor and Sadistic Intent, as they ferociously clawed and ravaged their way to their rightful position as one of the UK’s most exciting extreme bands."

Cool! I liked the demo so I'm looking forward to the full length. Any chance the EP/demos will be tacked on to the CD as bonus tracks or anything?

I'm sure it will sound amazing, but it'll be worth owning just for the artwork alone. Mind-blowing.

No kidding. For some reason it really clicks with me and I think it might be my favorite Girardi piece so far (although to be fair I haven't seen anything from him that didn't fuck my mind like a rabid goat).

Might be the first time in years that I buy an LP version of something based on the art alone. I've never heard this record but I'm almost guaranteed to buy it - something you will virtually never hear me say again. Laughing

Agreed. It gives me the same feeling as old Slayer art, that mix of the mundane and the impossible and with a very warped sense of composition. Truly disturbing and beautiful.

Luckily, Craven Idol is a great band who ought to live up to that artwork.
