Personally, I think it's very natural that two people who were among the ones who defined the way black metal sounds today eventually got bored of playing the same stuff over and over again. In a way, I understand the hate they receive, but they owe nothing and since their current records are quite decent, I'm happy with that. |
I think they really nailed their change of style with 'The Cult is Alive' - an excellent album, full of renewed energy and ideas. For me, it's the best DT release since 'Panzerfaust' - but I think their new style has progressively weakened with each release since 'The Cult is Alive'. It's time for some new ideas again. |
Totally agree, although I do think Circle the Wagons is better than Dark Thrones(their worst album IMO). Looking forward to the new one! |

From what the band has been saying, I think that FOAD phase is over.
I just read that the record may only have 6 tracks that are very long...
total opposite of the last several records, no?

"The Wind they call the Dungeon Shaker" is just the best DT track of the last 15+ years. Such a killer track with genius riffing that it's one of the best metal song of the last decade. Utter Classic. Period.
That being said, as far as ALBUMS are concerned CTW is better than DTABF which, apart from the opening masterpiece, has less good songs.
I like early DT and recent from Too Old Too Cold. Dislike the subpar middle period.
Excited to hear they might have taken yet a new direction.
