after revisiting massacra's "sick" (and enjoying it) I ask myself if there are LPs of former death metal "heroes" changing their sound to more "normal" metal that I missed. then and now.

recommendations and opinions, gentlemen.

some:

massacra - sick
sentenced - amok (grreat)
fester - silence (more blackish, still a gem)
cancer - black faith (hmmm, some good moments)
messiah - underground (dto plus silly artwork and lyrics)
therion - symphony masses (masterpiece)
carcass - after heartwork
paradise lost - shades of god (strong!)

ok, amorphis, tiamat, cemetary, entombed, xysma etc ... but I mean more classic metal than death n roll or goth metal or in flames

btw: I like how tribulation and morbus chrone move ... any new bands additionally? necrovation maybe?

Not completely on topic, but Morgoth - Feel Sorry for the Fanatic is an album that everyone hates and I like it for some reason. Haven't heard the full thing until just a 5 years ago or so, but I remember the Last Laugh video streaming on Viva - Virus and me enjoying it for both the music and visuals.

A bit off topic, but I remember feeling really terrible when Fester's Silence came out, those whispered vocals really got on my nerves, especially after an outstanding album such as Winter of SIn.

Sentenced's Amok was a total let down. It's totally lacking power. But then again, what can you do after North from Here?

Sentenced is not the only finnish death metal band to soften down. Also Xysma and Disgrace softened from their early days to the point of not being even metal anymore. Convulse also changed their sound quite a bit for second album.

Idea I love North From Here. I heard Amok and just found it kind of boring.
