Dani's contribution to the band is a huge part of the charm, I wouldn't claim otherwise - the lyrics add a whole other dimension, the vocal work is no doubt demanding and he was always the one who conceptualized the albums. But I think the definition of a musician is someone who writes and plays music, which in Cradle Of Filth was always done by everyone else.

Music is the arrangement of sounds, so what is the composition, arrangement, and performance of vocals if not music?

The Blood Divine, December Moon, and Hecate Enthroned are three great examples of Cradle of Filth without Dani. They were all rubbish.

I don't think harsh vocals can be transcribed into notes like music can be, but I suppose this definition would broaden music to encompass any sounds arranged in a whole variety of ways. Unharmonious, non-melodic, perhaps even all non-musical sounds could therefore be considered music. Music can also be filled with noises and sounds that have nothing to do with compositional effort, but do they become musical if they are presented within music?

Can't get it right without Dani Filth's riffs!

That December Moon album is fucking killer. I remember first hearing that in probably 1999 or 2000.

I talk to Stuart every so often and he told me about the "parallel universe" Midian album that he has demos of. He said it would have been totally different to what was released. Nice guy, got a bunch of old CoF shirts from him too.

On the contrary, Anorexia Nervosa was, for a time at least, what a grand band a COF-without-Dani could have been if they had followed the path paved on Vempire.. and partially found again on Cruelty... Drudenhaus was a monument of hysterical/aristocratic romanticism.

Exile sounded nothing like Vempire, as far as I remember. Are you referring to Drudenhaus?

Let's just say that it was a group effort that couldn't have been done by one person.

Yes, I do. Exile has almost Nothing to do with the rest of their discocraphy and from Sodomizing The Archedangel to The September EP, they played symphonic BM. Drudenhaus is their masterpiece IMO.

I think that's right. And a very specific group effort too that only existed for a certain period. I wish the new lineup just gave up and became a CoF 1994-1998 cover band.

Cool to see this as I was at this show. This band definitely had a period of time when they were releasing great records.

Does anyone have The End reissue of The Principle of Evil Made Flesh?? Curious about the sound quality. Been wanting to get this record and that seems the cheapest route!
