I was looking for the COF thread about the new record "The Manticore and Other Horrors" but could not find it.

Anyway - "The Manticore" is..... REALLY GOOD!
The best thing they have done since "Midian" for sure.
A log of great riffs, less cheese, less gothy, more brutal, more Black Metal and more straigh METAL.

I can't believe I am typing this, but check it out, especially if you USED to like the band but jumped off a long time ago, like me.

I... uhm...

somebody, anybody confirm this is not trolling plz, don't want to taint my download folder with shit for nothing

It's not more black metal, though it's definitely more riffy and has more of a heavy metal influence. I don't really like it. Most of the gothic stuff is gone and the symphonics definitely take a backseat to the guitars. Not the kind of sound I like from them.

I had no idea it could work like that. I can see how the last album may be considered good by the standards applied by someone who knows the band from say, Nymphetamine onwards. I can't see how the last album may be considered good if you are aware of the early albums. Old CoF and new CoF cannot coexist! They are practically mutually exclusive.

I could be wrong, even if that is unlikely. But really, the new album is much like all of their recent works, not heavy metal - heavy plastic. It'll take quite a drastic lifestyle change for me to be able to appreciate it.

I never thought of CoF as straight metal. A little fruity perhaps.

Man, I just knew the new Cradle of Filth album was gonna be badass 'cause in the last issue of Rue Morgue it got 4 skulls and Malignancy's new one got 0.

I am no troll, and all of my posts on here are serious.

I listened to the whole thing again.
And again, I myself was surprised, IT IS VERY SOLID and can win back some old fans/gain them some new ones.

Give it a YouTube listen or an illegal download for sure.

I love the first few COF records and this one will be a keeper.
Nice mix of old Cradle with a hard HEAVY METAL sound at times.
They should have been doing this for the last 15 years.

Their death metal demos are killer. I think I made a thread on here about them and an original member said a vinyl compilation may happen. Hoping for that.

There you go mate. Knock yourself out

This sounds great. Some cassette fuzz, but absolutely tolerable. I'd rate this bootleg fidelity at 7.5/10.
