Anyone point out some good SA Death/Black/Heavy/thrash/speed metal to me? I think in all my years, Void of Destruction was the only band out of SA I have heard and then only because I saw them when they toured Europe with Katatonia and In the Woods in the 1990s... _________________

Can't think of any South African acts in general, but I did once check out Orisha Shakpana simply because he was a black dude from Jamaica playing hellhammer sounding metal, which I thought was a bit ironic and took some balls. I guess its kinda amateur sounding in that GREAT sort of way. well, like Hellhammer for example... Interesting topic though. I definitely love hearing metal that comes from regions you absolutely would not expect it to, or areas that are not widely discussed in general. they are usually the rawest and actually execute stuff in true spirit, probably due to lack of exposure or stupid scene politics/trends, therefore the final result seems to have a more genuine feel (as opposed to so many other bands running around these days doing blatant forced tributes that come off gimmicky at best... of which there are too many to name) _________________ trade-want list/available list- http://www.nwnprod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20339 |

There was a semi-popular Grindcore-band called GROINCHURN in the late 90ies/early 2000ies.
Also, I am aware of a BM-band called VOLKMAG, but no clue if they are any good. |

Crackdust from Botswana is okay. I think the band is going to release a second album sometime. _________________ Well black metal doesn't really go in that group... at all.... Black metal is all witches and warlocks and graveyards....

I sampled some Wrust a few years ago too. Pretty good. _________________ "If noise means uncomfortable sound. Then pop is noise to me" - Masami Akita. |

wildernessking (or something like that)
But I don¨t think it is the type of the band that could be popular on this board. |

I think there must have been some sort of a scene down there. I remember seeing more than one scene reports from South Africa in zines in the 90s. That Void Of Destruction is the only name I could have come up with though.
Mortician zine once had a Pacific Ocean scene report. When I saw the headline, crushing Samoan death metal started playing in my head, but the article turned out to be mainly about Australian and Japanese bands. |

I have a copy of V.O.D. 's Black Cathedral tape lp. Don't even remember how it sounds.. Some deathrash but not sure at all. Sometime have to revisit it.
Also a well known south African rarity among heavy metal collectors and an amazing band indeed was Odyssey. Just one lp in 1991 which is amazing heavy power metal. Shame that it's really rare and expensive as well..
You can check for yourselves there:

Theres a band From Barbados called Conrad. I think he's working on new material with Andy from Orisha Shakpana.
Here's one of his songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acc3vFjY2ww |

Aye, that's pretty much the only SA band I know. I saw them when they supported Total Fucking Destruction on tour in the UK...unless you're desperate to hear something from SA, I can't remember there being much to recommend them. |
