just mailed out a tape that would have normally cost $8.85, however this time around it jumped to $9.45 for reasons I cannot seem to figure out. does anyone know if there's been another slight increase in the international rates or what?

It cost me $8.88 to send 2 CDs from Seattle to Germany.

It seems a fair price for an international 1st class shipment with tracking.

$8.88 is the online postage price, it's $9.45 if you pay at the post office.

How does that even work? Do you pay online and print out your stamp or something?

Yes, exactly. I guess they figure it saves the employees' time answering stupid questions about customs forms and stuff, so it's slightly cheaper.

Wow. Thats lame. Just like those stupid "self checkouts" in grocery stores and home depot, they make waiting in line for incompetent service so unbearable that you end up having to do it yourself.

From a customer standpoint, it's actually very nice because you don't have to wait in the line at all. You just drop the postage-paid parcel off at the counter while the rest of the schmucks (like me) wait in line... and it's cheaper... and you don't have to deal with the incompetent postal employees who want to tell you that a 12x15 envelope doesn't qualify for the "large envelope rate," even though it actually should.

On top of all of this, they changed my local PO hours so that it closes at 5:00 every day. That makes a lot of sense for a business with a huge revenue deficit to basically make it impossible for anyone with a 9:00-5:00 job to use their service.
