Incantation vs. Immolation

I think on the basis of individual songs, it's Incantation. On the basis of whole albums and career progression, it's Immolation. If Incantation hadnt had all the lineup problems they have (look at the MA page - 50+ members!) they would have a much less patchy discography

Immolation for me, even though I worship both bands. However, I think the best of all albums by these two bands is Onwards to Gologotha, but Immolation has released a better discography overall than Incantation, in my opinion.

Interesting poll results. I expected Immolation to win by quite a bit, but so far it's a tie.

Pretty surprised at the poll being pretty even. Expected Incantation to get most of the votes seeing as how they're the more "kvlt" band.

I actually have a hard time remembering Incantation by song, but I know them by album. It's weird. I couldn't tell you what fucking song is what, but I can tell you what album it's on. They are a great example of an "album band" to me, therefore.

I'm surprised Immolation is only winning by 3 votes, judging by the posts in this thread you would think Immolation should be winning by significant margin.

Really, guys? Devoured Death, Profanation, Diabolical Conquest, Demonic Incarnate, etc aren't memorable? Lol
I'll give you that Immolation have more memorable songs, almost all their albums leave a lasting impression, but to say Incantation isn't memorable enough just isn't true.

Obviously Incantation for me, but I've actually been into Immolation for WAAAAAY longer. I hold Here In After in the exact same high regard as I do Mortal Throne..., as I cut my death metal teeth on both.

But as Devoured Death said, they are not actually all that similar. To run with what Jake said, Immolation is much more dissonant and off kilter, whereas Incantation, who are extremely left-field compared to a true straight-forward death metal band, are a little more singular in their songwriting.
