It's unlikely that they would have been exterminated just for being metalheads, because there was generally a difference between "victims of persecution" which, in the words of one scholar, were "pursued until the members of that group severed ties with the group and its ideology, choosing instead to conform to the Nazi standard," and "victims of genocide and holocaust," i.e. groups "whose 'threat' lay in their blood" and which therefore could not be converted and thereby saved.
It seems likely that metalheads would have belonged in the first group, "victims of persecution," along with for example Freemasons – hounded and harassed until they fell in line, and pretty much tolerated after that. |
(Black) Metal music is in its essence liberal and leftist/anarchist. It's all about "doing as you wish", individualism, dressing like homeless parasites, hating religions (a typical leftist thing), openly encouraging all sorts of deviant behaviour and basically rejecting all morals and rules of society. It welcomes people from all races and nationalities, you have blacks, asians, caucasians, slavs playing metal -it doesn't even look upon sexual orientation as a discriminating factor, seen the clear tolerance towards homosexuals. It obviously doesn't get along well with ideologies that look upon racial integrity, strict discipline, belief in God and respect of laws as founding values. A metalhead is by definition an outcast and an obvious product of liberalism, as such he could hardly fit regimes that require working for the collective and adherence to pretty strict moral/ethic codes.
