The live album represents Metal in it's rawest and most untamed form. I've always enjoyed live recordings a great deal and I sometimes even prefer them over studio recordings. Two of my all-time favorites are Mayhem's Live in Leipzig and Dissection's Live Legacy, but there's so many other great ones out there. So this is a thread dedicated to the best Black and Death Metal live recordings.

Blasphemy's Live Ritual is fantastic, although I've never been much into live records. My favorite live record is of course No Sleep till Hammersmith.

Not too many black/death live albums spring to mind. Besides the ones mentioned in the OP, Vader's Live in Japan fucking kills.

That's a great live album yes, and I love The Darkest Age as well.

Morbid Angel - Entangled in Chaos
Deicide - When Satan Lives
Obituary - Dead
Suffocation - The Close of a chapter
Entombed - Monkey Puss
Unleashed - Live in Vienna '93
Vader - Live in japan
Asphyx - Live death doom

with a few exceptions (Live in Leipzig, that Gorgoroth dvd, the last Watain set) black metal live albums just don't work very well. It's fairly easy to tell why, most black metal bands rarely interact with the crowd so all you get is a bland replica of the studio songs with inferior sound quality.

I'll probably be standing alone on this one, but I actually like Mediolanum Capta Est. It came out before Grand Declaration of War broke my gay fan-heart. I really like the live versions of the Wolf's Lair Abyss tracks.

I prefer live videos to live albums, one of my favourites being some GBK DVDr bootleg I got from somewhere (fucked if I can remember where) that was from sometime around Judeobeast Assasination
