I'd like to hear some opinions on this one as well. |
Recently, I wrote this on another forum concerning the partially re-recorded version of "The True Legend":
In an attempt to produce a clearer, more aggressive sound, the re-release unfortunately removed most of the sound's warmth, density and earthy heaviness (it was a Swedish black metal album with a Greece black metal sound, if you will). Paradoxically, instead, it now sounds typically "highly compressed", thus blurring the details of the music, leaving only a grating buzz instead of a merely muffled murkiness. If Svartsyn with the re-release had intended to give "The True Legend" a sound which would better fit the album's ambiance, then, as far as I am concerned, they truly failed. |

Thank you. It's seems though that you have some positive feelings toward the original recording, something which I absolutely don't have. It's a total hack-job with no "ambience" to ruin as far as I'm concerned. Any sound where I'd be able to hear a single riff would be preferrable, but I guess I'll just have to check it out for myself. _________________ http://www.dissectionforum.dk/ |

Upon randomly buying the original ....the true legend in a cd shop, I was floored by the massive , haunting , whirlwind production that this cd boasted. Arguably one of the most evil sounding records ever recorded. Id have to vote this or split with arkanum as being the most supreme.
Pm if anyone's interested in the original folter records edition of "the true legend" I've got two copies and will be willing to part with one for a fair price or trade _________________ "walk with me into the fire"- Martyrvore |

I do have a positive attitude for the original mix, basically for the same reasons as Gemini NCE wrote above. I don't consider it that of a mess and highly enjoy the bellowing, howling sound. It's a little Swedish black metal favourite of mine, after all.
Do ruin your ears, though, who am I to stop you! |

| Oddly enough the only thing I own/have heard from this band is the "A Night Created By the Shadows" demo, which I recall was pretty good. Guess I should finally check some of the albums out. |

| with timeless reign they are among the very few bands that managed to create a REAL frightening and cold atmo. it reeks of death! no mörk gryning tralala melodies, just grimness. |

Consistently good band. Agree with the comments about them being under-rated.
The only low point of this band has to be the artwork for their last EP ‘Genesis of Deaths Illuminating Mysteries’ – absolutely terrible. |

I think the bad sound on The True Legend and their record deal with Sound Riot Records hurt them pretty bad. It's interesting to see how most people tend to prefer Timeless Reign, as that was the first Svartsyn album you could easily find in an underground distro. _________________ http://www.dissectionforum.dk/ |

| Seems like in my previous post I coulnt stress my love for other albums enough, it's impossible to pick a fave, all are equally great. Sweden must be proud of having such a band. |

Really good band. One of my all time favorite black metal bands. I voted for Timeless Reign because on that album everyting seemed right for me. The production, the songwriting, the album as a whole and the riffs of course.
They've been very consistent throughout the years but I think that the departure of Draugen caused already a slight drop in quality. Nonetheless, I am curious how there new album will be. |

Just checked a few tracks on jewtube, definitely going to give this band another shot. I really liked what I heard of the production on the original version of TTL. _________________
