I love their two first albums,After those ,sound start to become plastic...
First two are true black metal with the old spirit, means killer.
My fave is ''Those of the unlight'' and then the debut. |

| Early stuff is killer. I have no problem admitting I enjoy most of their stuff up to and including PDM. Fistfucking God's Planet is a great song/song title. |

You mean live? If so, I'd actually hope they won't play any of those old tunes anymore and concentrate on a post-TotU setlist exclusively. The old stuff just doesn't fit the full-speed ahead blast attack style that Marduk has been playing for a number of years now. Last time I saw them perform Within the Abyss and Still Fucking Dead I could barely recognize the songs, they replaced all mid-tempos with blastbeats and it didn't sound good at all. _________________ Thread derailed

First three Marduk are great. The Legion-era is quite boring in retrospective, although I don't remember much criticism back when those albums were released.
But they were an awesome live-band with Legion still, one of the better front-men in BM. Can't speak for anything post "La Grande Danse Macabre", that's when I was done with them. |

the newer stuff is pretty boring and interchangeable at least the early records had identity to them . |
Serpent Sermon was a great release! The band has shown great promise ever since Mortuus joined as a front man. |

| Fuck Me Jesus is one of the best demos of all time, and Dark Endless is one of the darkest albums of the era, so they clearly were doing something right. |

I love the old stuff from the early death metal leanings to no strings attached black metal. Dark Endless is great, so is Opus Nocturne. I recently also revisited Heaven Shall Burn and albeit the hyperblast nature of that album, it's actually way more diverse than I remembered. But that cover, eek! _________________ §:-«l |

| The demo, "Dark Endless" and "Those of the Unlight" rule supreme! I never got into the Legion-era-stuff. Especially "Panzer Division Marduk" I think was quite boring, just one blastbeat after another devoid of any feeling. Nevertheless the second part of "Nightwing" was nice. |

Those Of The Unlight is the only one I listen regularly. I lost interest when they became obsessed with speed, so that live album is probably the last one that I've heard. Black Tormentor Of Satan is a speedy black metal anthem though. Out of the later albums, which one is a good starting point considering that I don't care about the fast-paced stuff that much?
The production on Opus Nocturne lacks something, but the album has some good songs nevertheless. I did not cry when I heard the title track for the first time, even though Morgan said in an interview, that it's the kind of song that will make even grown-up men shed a tear or two.
Was there something wrong with the vinyl pressing of the 2nd album, as in not worth hunting down?

opus nocturne is my favorite and the last good record by them imho. i don't think opus nocturne was a mastered recording when it originally came out, so yeah, it was missing something. haven't heard the new master that was issued. "the sun has failed" is GREAT song. _________________ http://www.ugEXPLODE.com

| Opus Nocturne for me, especially the song Materialized in Stone. I'm probably one of the few people who enjoys later "war" Marduk to an extent. The religious stuff they did afterwards is pretty boring though. |

Probably Rom 5:12 only, the other three albums are more in the ultra-fast style that you said you don't like.

Yeah its completely fucked up in a couple of tracks with several sudden interruptions/breaks right in the middle of the songs, making it barely listenable. _________________ Thread derailed
