So is it safe to say the verdict is BTC dubs sound like shit?

IMO

Exactly.

Also, which version did you hear of the second album? I initially heard the CN dubbed version, listened several times and dismissed it as somewhat of a let down. After hearing the Dismal Cursings version I can assure that it is a very worthy follow up to the debut.

I have no idea if there's even a rip floating around online of the DC version. I know the initial rip that I did, which is probably the most distributed digital version, was sourced from the CN dub.

Yes.

The dubbed Volahn/Kallathon pro tape quality is much better than a lot of their dubs. I thought it was maybe even a pro tape, but once I heard the pro tape version there's no comparison.

One of your best BM album EVER?! Shocked

Itīs a good album. Thatīs it for me. The last one didnt even click at all.
I have the tape for trade/sale of "Without..."
I really dońt get the big words thrown here for what is just a good album IMO.
Is it an American thing mostly?
We've had so much better... For instance, concerning the new USBM scene, Odz Manouk is soooo much better.
Maybe they rip live I dunno, but nothing mesmerizing/masterful/outstanding here

Just opinion of course.

ODZ MANOUK is amazing as well, but not psychedelic like ARIZMENDA. I think it is not only a great album, but one that actually fascinates me to listen to, if that makes sense.

I have the one with color glossy cover I think with the masked dude in reddish tones
I know that CN original pressings, a lil bit like RH 1st presses are usually shite so I must have bought the DC version. And even then it wasnt my cup of tea at all, less good than the 1st album which was ok.

@Descension: I respect your feeling man, i know you tend to be super dithyrambic in your "appreciation" threads Wink
I havent listened to Arizmenda "Within vacuum..." In more than 2 years so I'll ditch out the tape from one of the boxes in my car and give it another fresh listen!

I agree with Descension for the most part. Nice to hear that I'm not the only one to hold that tape in high regards. "Within..." is an atmospheric BEAST of an album. I'd say it's flawless. Though, I wouldn't say it's one of the best BM albums ever - it has yet to stand the test of time.

Unfortunately, I own the CN version of the second album and have a hard time getting into it because of the sound.

Does anyone own both versions of the second album and can safely confirm that the sound differs seriously?

I have the CN version of the second LP and its unlistenable. Haven't passed judgement on that album because I figured a pro-tape version would come out at some point anyway.

i had the first and second presses of "without". 2nd sounded a little better but honestly the magic shines thru the shitty dubbing.

Well I'm mailing you the DC press this week, you'll hear the difference for sure.

I had the same thought about Dolorvotre ("Without" is barely listenable imo..). I downloaded some files of the reworked CD to check how it sounds and I really prefer the tape. I'll soon get a copy of the vinyl though, I guess it will sound way better on LP.

I only enjoyed the CN dub of the Dolorvotre CS when I would come home drunk.

I love the way it sounds, raw as it should. The rest of their dubbed tapes do sound shitty though, except for the first Arizmenda, and Kallathon too, maybe.

Pro-tapes of second Arizmenda and Dolorvotre are still available directly from me as well for the time being.
Still much looking forward to seeing "Within the Vacuum of Infinity..." materialized on vinyl.

heh, you're right actually. when listening to the cd, you can actually notice that the production on the dolorvotre album is pretty clean compared to most of the other cn stuff.
