Visionary is incredible and their best work by far imho. The last album is really good though. Better than Mirium Occultum for sure.
The EPs are really good too, especially Arkaik. I'd love to see this one receiving a vinyl release sometime.. or CD, its original release was on analog format after all. Some EP compilation of the analog-only material would be pretty cool.

Because several tapes turned out defunct, we decided to do a LP version of Arkaik. BUT, not in quite some time, so step away from your computers. Don't mail me about it.
Visionary was just average, showed their potential. Mirium Occultum is my favourite, and all the ep's. Imperator is great of course, but doesnt reach up to the other stuff.

Hope to have the EPs on cd as well. Mirium Occultum is my fave, but I think Visonary is a very solid album too.

I don't know man, you hear very little of Visionary on their later albums. I really think that album stands on its own as a style they simply moved on from. |

Only heard Imperator so far. Songs are great but the release is too long for my attention span.
I prefer this Imperator better:

Agreed. I am mostly a Dodsengel fan of that aesthetic though, haha. I'm not surprised to hear you don't like it that much, I wouldn't say it's a love it or hate it release, but they are a very different band on that one.

| I think the bottom line is a band like Dodsengel is not for everyone, being they are a very bizarre and non conventional type of vessel. I find that everything they have done is truly unique, and carries it's own weight enough to stand as one of the more creative forces in black metal today. I will say it best, Mare and Dodsengel are two of the best things happening in Norway today. |

'Visionary' is raw genius! The twisted roots of what surfaced later! Aggressive, monstrous, unhinged, and somehow chaotic and coherent at the same time. Still love it as much as I did when I first heard it. 'Word of Uncreation', 'Djevelens Lys' and 'Raziel' are all excellent tracks... 'Void', 'The Opposing Ideal' and 'Glorious Salvation' are among my favourite ever Dødsengel songs.
I'll do the vinyl repress one day, if it's the last thing I ever do!

I think the s/t MLP is like a hybrid of the styles of the first and second albums. Listen to 'Intrare' - this song in particular would have fitted in perfectly on 'Visionary'. Not surprising though, as the MLP tracks were written immediately after the first album, if I remember correctly.

| Appreciated. Imperator is a beast, but I think I slightly prefer Mirium Occultum. The E.P's are a bit hit and miss for me. |
