Just curious what some older dm fans thought of the early Canadian death metal scene, specifically the non Cryptopsy bands of Martyr, Gorguts, Early Kataklysm, Martyr, Quo Vadis, etc. What band out of these released the greatest bit of early material, and which band's work has lasted the longest and had the most plays from you? _________________

Atheretic's "Adhesion, Aversion..." is great if you're into old Cryptopsy etc. (don't pay any attention to the MA review) _________________ http://www.dissectionforum.dk/ |

Canada had quite a few solid DM bands.
Carcinogen, Sarkasm, Ancestral, Macifecation, Nefarious are a few that come to mind. _________________

Considered Dead is one of my all time favorites....fantastic album!
Erosion of sanity is pretty great as well.
I have'nt listened to the others enough to even form an opinion. |

Mystical Gate Of Reincarnation and Sorcery both rule in my book - some of the craziest vocals around at the time
never really clicked with old Gorguts and wasn't aware of the others back then _________________

I'm a huge fan of the Purulence discography. Also, Gorguts is definitely my favorite Canadian DM band, I enjoy everything up to Obscura. _________________ http://churchofdisgust.bandcamp.com - ROTTEN DEATH METAL

Gorelust - Reign of Lunacy
Necrotic Mutation - demos and first EP
Agony - demo and first album.
Chaosick, Sarkasm, November Grief, Obscene Crisis, Necrosis (pre-Cryptopsy), Mid-Evil, Anthagonist, Apocalyptic Fear, Eulogy, Entownizer, Ablation and Morbid Darkness are also great. |

I'm a huge fan of Que Vadis, Martyr, Anonymus (maybe a little more toward the thrash end of things) and earlier Neuraxis. _________________ Gravemusic.com - My metal site!

I always enjoyed Rotting's first two demos.
Summertime Daises' demo was really good, but there was something lacking from their album. Live shows were usually pretty good, if they weren't too loaded. Which leads into Flesh Feast...during the mid-90s FF and SD would play their so-called Puke Fests, outdoor death metal, beer and puke.
Blood of Christ was a semi-known band that I thought had potential. Their third demo was one of my favourites for years.
As mentioned before, Kataklysm's Mystical Gate... and Sorcery are the pinacle of Canadian death metal from the early to mid-90s. My all-time favourite live show is Kataklysm when they toured for Temple of Knowledge. They opened with "Sorcery" with the intro...listen to the song if you don't know it and you may understand the experience. Houde was an animal on vocals. |

| NONE, Canada is more known for it's punk and black metal out-put. Razor, Sacrifice and Slaughter are more thrash and they are/were the best from canada. Malhavoc and Monster Voodoo machine were more thrash/Indsutrial but still rank as the best bands I EVER saw live. |
